Thanks for sharing, I'll not be able to make the festival but is the film available more widely as it looks like interesting subject matter?

Shirley the film should be premiered in a leaky shed at Ryton or Linwood, not that London place.

I hope you don’t fall foul of Trump’s new sanctions against Iran’s automotive sector.

I happen to be familiar with Mill Hill School - strikes me as an impossibly grand place to host a film about a humble everyday car....

You can't sanction Paykan! It has seen it ALL. :)

Were any Paykans built in right hand drive after production began in Iran?

No. No evidence of any RHD model made in Iran. Interestingly for years the Iranians  were thinking that the windshield wipers weren't converted for the Iranians LHD market, and for the last 5-6 year of production, and all the Paykan-Pickup after that, the fools in IranKhodro actually tooled-up new windshield wipers and made them RHD! Idiots!...

Sorry, I can't make it. But I would like to see your film.

BTW I miss your website, I used to enjoy the regular Peykan updates.

Yes that is an actual Paykan they got. I don't know actually how they got! It is either a 1981 or 1982 model. It was right around that time that they were fitted with the Avenger 1600cc engine.

Maybe some sort of goodwill gesture involving Iran Khodro and PSA, given that Talbot/Peugeot had their plant not that far away in Ryton?

Don't think so, but you might be right. It has an official Iranian export plate though.

About 20 or so years ago I struggled to find a Hunter distributor, bloody lobes had worn away to near nothing broke my heart trying to get any kind of a gap at the points,  these days it would be a simple matter of dropping in the electronic doodar.

For obvious reasons there's plenty of TV footage of the Iranian embassy back in 1980 and I've never seen one in the background.

The surprising thing is how modern the Hunter was when it was first licensed out to Paykan. After Billy Roots fucked up his VW Beetle decision it shows a surprising amount of foresight.

Is this a sister car to the Insignia? After having both a Hunter and Insignia I know which one I'd rather have.

The irony is the British Embassy in Tehran, located in Bobby Sands Street, used Maxi's on diplomatic plates while running around escapees from the American embassy in 1979. A fact ignored in the film Argo.

Perhaps. Someone needs to ask where did they get that car at the museum.
