Saab. What is it about them that just keeps you fixing them?

Soooo tempting... if only I had somewhere to park it and time to appreciate it.  My 9K was not only my first of three Saabs but also my first ever car that wasn't small, basic and slow.  Found a pic from 2004, the day I changed it for the first 9-5.  It struggled on for another three or so years before dropping out of tax and MOT, during which time someone managed to get it up to 95mph on the M180 near Hull because I got the summons.  Good luck selling, looks a really nice one.

I’ve got a box of bushes and bits for mine that I can’t seem to get a spare minute to fit. Ordered a new Cv boot and tie rod end boot but they’re the slip over ones not the pre cut and seal with rubber variety, not sure I can be arsed.

In other news, bought a new set of combination wrenches 6-32 from Aldi of all places to pretend I really am going to attempt to change the rose joint bushes myself...eventually

this might be a good place to ask if anyone has a spare throttle body for a 9-3 turbo.2001 2.0 i think, replaced the dic,but it seems over revvy, and cuts out.

I'll be interested to here how you get on with the rose bushes, do you have a puller?

No, mine are totally buggered as per the garage so was going to see if they just pop/fall out, I’ll go threaded rod route and pull out if they’re stubborn.

Doing the subframe too but plan on using a hole saw to cut them out and in theory it is possible to do by leaving one bolt in the subframe, slotting them in and using a jack to force them in by lifting subframe...all sounds like amateur/instant death to me...I’ll not be under car for that manoeuvre!

No but I might have a luggage net, not helpful but you just reminded me.

You're probably better off asking on UKSaabs.co.uk a few members on there break Saabs.

Just collected my 9000 from my tame mechanics, aircon recharged, coolant flushed and renewed and a new coolant header tank fitted as the old one was really grotty. Took it for a 40 mile run and it drives lovely! Circumstances now dictate that I have to sell it so it is up for sale now if anyone is interested.

Get a separate thread up with photos, description and price (if you don't already).

That thing looks fine and would be popular, so you'd have a buoyant thread if nothing else. :-D

Or take a look at Rawsaab (stock depends on what has rolled up/off the road) or as other have said, UKsaabs is the best bet.

Has anyone ever fitted rear discs on a 9-3 2005 vintage?

If I'm correct, I need a female torx socket and a caliper piston wind in tool.

I've also heard that the carrier bolts are devilish tight.

Any pointers to make the job easier much appreciated.

Have Neo Brothers not got any in? They do a mix of original, 3rd party and used parts.

I want to do something about the dead pixels on my SID. I've seen a YouTube video and it looks like a job I'm capable of.

EBay is full of repair kits but how do I know if I have a SID I or a SID II?

Has anyone done the job, any tips or pointers I should be aware of?

My SID has an issue with the middle digit on the clock. I'm not fixing it, it adds a little frisson of excitement to every time sensitive journey. No idea whether I've made it on time or not until I arrive and can check my phone.

Took my 9-5 for a service. Air con compressor leaking, but managed to get one from a member at uksaabs.com for a good price.

Not very happy though, as its come back with the EML light on. Garage said it was on when I took it in, which is bollocks, because it wasn't. They cleared it last time with their Saab code machine

Said the wires to the lambda sensor cut. It has been since I bought it. Also clutch issue not sorted or even mentioned.

Anyone recommend a good Saab specialist in Essex/EastLondon/Kent because I'm never taking it back to the last place ever again.

Sid 1 has triangles on the buttons...

Before you buy repair kits, you can often try and fix the existing side with a small bit of foam behind the display to try and keep pressure on the lcd contacts, the display bums out because some of the contacts deteriorate over time but a strategically wedged bit of foam can potentially solve it.

I can't recommend any specialists, but I can recommend two very good independent garages in SE London/Kent parts.

Gilbert Road Service Station, Gilbert Road, Belvedere, Abbey Wood Kent/SE London borders.

Monarch Autos, Milton Road, Swanscombe, Kent.

Both will work on pretty much any car and are classic/shite friendly.

I’m currently sat in front of the tv drinking wine with my fecking 9-5 outside on three wheels because I cannot for the love of God get my bastard torx bolts holding the bastard carrier to budge so I can repack and change the cv boot...I suggest heat, impact drivers and ideally, £40 to pay someone else to waste an hour of their life trying to get the fuckers to budge.

Why do you need to get the carrier off to change a CV boot?

Why do you need to get the carrier off to change a CV boot?

Technically I don’t, I suppose but given how much grease is not in the cv joint anymore and an unknown length of time of it being like that, i want the caliper out of the way so I can get more wiggle room to see the state of things and weigh up greasing up the cv and rebooting or just paying the extra to stick a new job lot cv/axle in.

There’s a pretty obvious vibration at 70-90 and naturally, this is the suspect area so getting my head in for a poke about is the general idea.

Lazy arse that I am, I’ve ordered one of those slit cv boots that you glue up so that should be here Tuesday in case I just get fed up of trying.

Undo the bottom balljoint, hub nut out and pull the leg off the CV, then move leg to the side, that'll let you right in at the CV joint and allow you to knock it off the shaft, or I usually knock the shaft out the box and take the whole lot to the vice, in a nice dry shed with some tea.. Forget those split CV boots- wast of time- best get a stretchy boot with the cone if you don't want to split the joint.

Carrier torx bolts... 1/2 inch 14mm (iirc)  multipoint socket on a breaker bar. They go with a crack..

Thought I’d just add a pic of mine to the thread, a late 900

I didn’t expect this to feel (and smell, oddly) like my old 900s, but it does in various little ways. I like it!

Might be worth trying Cromwell Saab in Sydenham, SE London.  After moving to London I used them for 7 years with two 9-5 Aeros and was always happy with them.  They still seem to be operating out of the same premises but the people may be different.  http://cromwellsaab.com

 Weird isn't it?

When I got in the 9-3 I had, it smelt exactly like my Mk3 cavaliers did, and the 9-5 has the same kind of smell too, no doubt it some highly toxic mid 90's chemicals that make it smell like that.
