Burnside Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 What happened? This needs picking up with the assent of the caretaker and putting somewhere safe whilst the ownership is sorted out. Any ideas? From what I understand from the comments on flickr, the caretaker was the person who implied that the Ritmo was free to whoever took it away as otherwise the scrap man beckons. So if it's collected quickly then yes storing it while establishing ownership rights etc would be the best way forward. Am tempted to drive about the 3 hours there to try and find this chap myself but hate to get there and find it's been claimed by someone more local or worse the scrapman hence me asking if anybody local can make contact with the caretaker or find out how to contact him / her direct, i.e phone / email.
sierraman Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Hang on it isn’t his to give away. Could be all sorts of reasons why it’s not abandoned, owner could be ill or working abroad.

True, which is why I think it's best to speak to him directly first. Hence me asking about trying to make contact with them and then hopefully get a better picture of how best to proceed, to ensure this vehicle doesn't end up in the bin and if someone is missing this car. Return it to it's rightful owner/ keeper. I just don't want to see this Fiat scrapped by doing nothing either. Dick Cheeseburger and Ohdearme 2
nigel bickle Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Think you’ll find it’s gone..... Safely stored. ( Not by me.) puntopaul, Burnside, The Moog and 5 others 8
Dick Cheeseburger Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Jeez, this is painful. 1. Who owns the land where the Fiat is parked?2. Who has had contact with the caretaker, and what responsibility and control does he have over the land the car is parked in?3. Why hasn't someone collected it already? Kringle, puntopaul and Burnside 3
nigel bickle Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 It has been collected. On a trailer.. Not by me. D Spares & Tyres, Alexg, Skizzer and 3 others 6
omegod Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 It has been collected. On a trailer.. Not by me. Hooray ! at least someone has sense, if you saw this sitting in a scrappy with a focus on top of it you'd be gutted Burnside, puntopaul and Wilko220 3
Vin Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Looking at the Fiat Motor Club facebook page, it was rescued by somebody via there... Slartibartfast, Kringle, Burnside and 4 others 7

Looking at the Fiat Motor Club facebook page, it was rescued by somebody via there... Excellent News I can sleep tonight! Getting this Car saved was all I wanted if it was either me or by someone else's doing so. As Dick Longbridge was highlighting. I was just trying to find out if it was possible to directly contact the Caretaker that had said that the car was free in the first place. Then I could see for myself what the facts were and how best to approach it. Or otherwise I'd have happily travelled the near 3 hours to find out if need's be. Hopefully we can look forward to seeing this Ritmo at a future car event / show and not a story about what could of been. puntopaul and Dick Cheeseburger 2
doubleyeller Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Personally I remember thinking at the time that the rebadging to Strada was simply proof that you can't polish a turd, but I suppose if someone found it in themselves to love it, hideous features, rust and all, they are simply better people than myself...
Zelandeth Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Bloody good show on whoever has saved it. At least it shouldn't wind up cubed while folks try to figure out what the deal with the ownership status is now. Burnside, puntopaul, theorganist and 1 other 4
puntopaul Posted August 6, 2018 Author Posted August 6, 2018 That's a great result, I know for some the ownership thing was a sore point. And just to re-alliterate, I was by no means trying to encourage theft of any sort. But at least if the owner is found now, he or she will get there Ritmo / Strada back in reasonable shape. As opposed to a small metal cube, that it could of ended up being!! I will keep an eye out on the Fiat owners club, and see if there's any further news about it. But I really appreciate everyone's comments, an the goal of saving this Fiat was achieved by someone. Whomever they are a job well done, hopefully I'll see the car at some Italian car meet in the near future Dick Cheeseburger, Joey spud, Kringle and 4 others 7
D Spares & Tyres Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Excellent news. Even if it does turn out that is it someone's pride and joy and they were abroad, hospital or wherever then the car would have been taken away and given a few weeks repreive, awaiting contact from the registered keeper before sending it to be crushed. They would also be hit with a bill for removal, storage and scrapping of it. Even if this car were to get instantly fragged, I think the owner or family of the owner have been done a favour! puntopaul 1

Whomever they are a job well done, hopefully I'll see the car at some Italian car meet in the near future Lol I don't have any serious issue with people helping themselves to my car. Obviously, bring back hanging to encourage the others, but they are just lumps of metal and I keep them insured under generous agreed values. I expect people to be theiverous, dishonest and deceitful......But whatever you do, DON'T try and "Help" by moving my old banger, have me waste my time reporting it stolen, embarking on the endless insurance paperwork that is involved, only to have it "Helpfully" returned and be told that I now have to inform the insurance company that said theft wasn't a theft - it was just an enthusiast trying to "Help" - their everyday procedures are a ballache and a half - can you imagine having to complete insurance procedure for which there is no precedent?
D Spares & Tyres Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Probably best look after your cars then. Don't leave them lying about on other people's land in a grubby state with no tax or MoT and move them pronto if they get a removal notice on them, then you should be safe from the 'helpers' Joey spud, Rusty_Rocket, Skizzer and 7 others 10
