M'coli Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Right, first off, head south to Huddersfield to pick up my mate, and saw this Lancia Y10 at the A1/M1 junction:M6, M74 north brought this lot:A couple of non-ratlook VW campers! At the Tesco in Carlisle saw this VW camper:and some posh shite! There was roadworks on the A9, and I took a photo to see how far they were, little realising that the top of the smashingly jobby-brown camper-shite was a Bedford CF, and I missed another chance to get it.The first stop was for a stag do at Grantully near Pitlochry, but the shite-spotting must continue. This Land Rover had an '07 tax disc on it.Polo breadvanI woosed out of the whitewater rafting, so got the camera out to shoot this 626When I picked some of the party up, we went into Pitlochry and I detoured down a cul-de-sac to get this, while the rest of the car went "Why the f*** would you want to drive that?"It then turned up at the stag venue, I spoke to the owner (a not unattractive young woman), and took some more pictures. It may be shite, but the workmanship isn't, there's been a great deal of care spent on this. Next day we headed up beside Loch Tummel, and found some hydro-electric shite! Seriously, this is totally unlike anything built by "The Hydro Boys" during the post-war years, which sought elegant solutions to the problems the landscape presented in the quest for power generation. This was built in the 1930s, and qualifies as shite because there's a huge ugly concrete and steel construction in a pretty river valley, with no attempts to make it aesthetically pleasing...These were at Kinloch Rannoch. We crossed the country to Fort Bill, and my luck continued - I saw a German registered Vanden Plas Allegro, in 2006, a German Daimler Double-six last year, and this year, an Austrian MkIX Jag, complete with child seat in the back!http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000196.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000198.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000199.jpgPaging Forotobia! Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Wonderful pics! I would lke to do this kind of scotland roadtrip, it looks like the best place in the world.
CortinaDave Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Tis very nice oop north on the west coast. Sadly however the rains almost always lashing down when you are there.
M'coli Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks! The west coast/highlands of Scotland is indeed a magical place, best seen in bright sunshine with a reasonably stiff breeze to keep the midges at bay. It's an absolute nightmare when it's pissing down and there's no wind, the best sort of conditions for said beasts to attack anything with warm blood. Then there's winter, where you might get 6 hours of weak daylight
pogweasel Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Tis very nice oop north on the west coast. Sadly however the rains almost always lashing down when you are there. It's lashing with rain all the time EVERYWHERE in Scotland isn't it? Certainly every time I go there anyway.
CortinaDave Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 The east coast isn't nearly as rainy, its the Glasweigan region that cops the worst of it. EVERY SINGLE TIME I've been there lately you get within about 10 miles of Glasgow on the M8 and you see the sky get lower, then the lash starts.

Thats Wales Apart from the shite how was the holiday?
M'coli Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 ^^^Not long enough! Relaxing, except the drive from Carlisle to Yorkshire - I think the Cav's damaged the head gasket due to me being an arse and not re-connecting the fan sender on the radiator after the oil filter change (molegrips on filter, not enough room, take wire off to make room etc.) and then sitting in static traffic on the A9. Didn't notice it get too hot as I kept switching the engine off when we weren't moving, but I've owned Imps in the past and know the symptoms...
M'coli Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 So, back on Raasay, after a rather long walk and then dinner in the hotel, a rotten Transit. We soon came upon this pair, a Lada 1500 and a CF ambulance. At this very moment the camera ran out of juice, so I only got one picture of the Lada - when my mate sends me his pictures of the pair, I shall add them.Next day, fresh charge, got these GolfsAn LDVAnother old tractorWaiting for the ferry, it's that VW van againand a non-scene mk2 Golf.
Split_Pin Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Great spots there! Is that Power Station the one with the Fish ladder? If it is, its an impressive sight!I lived in Culloden near Inverness for a while and my central heating was fully controlled by either this power station or one very near it. I had no controls in my flat for it at all!
fotorabia Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Paging Forotobia! Can you spot the location of my own shite in this photo?dang...double track road..uhm..coming into Strontian i finks...if im correct..i used to work on a salmon farm at that location....loch used to freeze over in winter..
M'coli Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Paging Forotobia! Can you spot the location of my own shite in this photo?dang...double track road..uhm..coming into Strontian i finks...if im correct..i used to work on a salmon farm at that location....loch used to freeze over in winter..Indeed! First time I've been there, it won't be the last I don't think. We stayed in a bunkhouse up at Ariundle, along with a woman chilling out after doing some international aid work in Gaza. She had bacon for breakfast for the first time in many months!
M'coli Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Is that Power Station the one with the Fish ladder? If it is, its an impressive sight! There are a few dams etc with fish ladders, another one's at Pitlochry, but this one - Dunalistair - is never trumpeted nor promoted and really difficult to find information on. There's more about the trout fishing than about the dam itself on the internet.
fotorabia Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 i know the folk that run the cafe at Ariundle...i used to fish the river up there..caught a 2lb sea trout once!..me Mum was well pleased!
fotorabia Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 yeah..its owed by the Campbells..i went there for bacon butties on my last royal entourage in 2004..usually theres a bit of shite lying around Strontian....back in 93 i remember forlornly peeking thru a dusty shed window nr the Campbells at a long lost Morrie ARO16...probs still there! This was sitting in one of the Campbells fields back in 93..i was in love..i wanted to take it back to Berlin with me...
M'coli Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Back on the mainland, car park at Kyle of Lochalsh, another green/grey AlmeraInteresting Q plate TK, hiding in a yard on the road to Plockton.Tranny camper with a chassis for something else in front - a non-CPTC, nevertheless. Any ideas?Rover SD1 and a mk1 or 2 Jag/Daimler lurking behind. I think the garage who own the yard might have got a bit suss if I'd asked for a closer look!Somewhere on the road to plockton, this rather cute pair.Plockton produced this Swiss-registered Logan. WTF are Renault doing, not releasing this in RHD in the UK? I'd have one. Some Barry shite at the end of the road in PlocktonRandom stuff on the road to LochcarronLochcarron next, anothe tidy 740 estateA V8 Cortina - it said "AC" on the back, but the indicator stalks (Which I neglected to take a photo of - doh!) don't lie!Missing link time, where's the 606? A dizzler too for extra points! In Torridon, there was this little Fergie with a home made cab, possibly made out of a caravan.Lower Diabeag, and there's some ship-shite.Drove down here - very picturesque, tiny road clinging to the side of the mountain into a tiny harbour and bumped into a guy from the site I used to work at 9 years ago in Cambridgeshire. One of his first comments was "Good to see you're still running old bangers!" What a top chap! Stunning location too, these are images from "Geograph"Stayed in Torridon Youth Hostel and walked to the pub - it was a wi-fi hotspot, 4 geeks out with lap-tops and a stand-up terminal...On the way there was this MG Metro Notice the Mini-robbers have been there already! Not many pictures taken on the way home, but if you're riding a motorbike on a sunny day and you're overtaken by an artic, speed the fuck up.^^Just north of Crianlarich.Down the hill at Bowling on the A82, wedding shitehttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000502.jpg On the M898 (one of the pathetic motorways - less than a mile long!)http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000504.jpgLast but not least, a young couple in a nice Merc on the A74M.http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/m4coli/Highlands%202009/P1000505.jpgThat's it, all done. I'll see what I can take the next time I'm up there!
Volksy Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Random chassis looks like a Landy to me.Is the yellow truck a cut down fire engine?
