Gold Adventurer update. Hit and run.

So I have an abundance of dark grey and Frontera in my life. I find myself lacking the brown and beige that a man of my advancing years should be enjoying. With that in mind I'm on a train from the grandly named Barnsley Interchange heading towards Dottingham (first class return please). Or Nottingham for my younger viewer.

Yes, I live in Worcestershire. No,I didn't get a train from Bewdley to Barnsley in some strange mistyping of destination hilarity.

Meadowhall.

Dronfield.

Chesterfield.

It's like a 'where's nowhere' on a Sunday.

58 minutes in and I'm slightly deafer and very much more uncomfortable.

Or maybe just old and hungover?

and lying on my side it seems.

I can't get up, or lack the will to.

Noisy, hot, uncomfortable-this from a man who commutes in a Front-area. Misery in DMU form.

Even the driver has forgotten the name of the station. Langley Mill the sign proudly proclaims.

6 minutes of fitful dozing, the blissful mini-death that brings respite from the fearful pounding of my head or the hateful, resonating 'powerunit' that seems to be mounted on time-expired Mk3 Cortina void bushes right under my nylon covered orange crate

I think everyone else is out having fun, I'm just here keeping the place tidy.

Chodspeed that man.

4 minutes from Nottingham, awoken again by the man two rows in front of being sick into his book. It stinks. He's just wiped his chin off and carried on. I have no words.

On a Sprinter or something?

I spent 5 hours on Friday on a Class 220:

How they can make a train to supposedly replace the IC125 which is actually more cramped, noisier and less refined is beyond me. Because DMU, I guess. Even the new ones GWR are parading around are just DMU's.

'Cross country' was a good summary of my journey, actually.

Indeed. If I'd actually sat on the roof with a harness constructed from discarded frappuchino straws I'd have felt more comfortable.

So, another DMU.

I have the actual seat I booked. Avec table et charging point. I take it all back, even the stink of book puke man is fading. A new optimism is growing. The flatlands of the East await.

Puketrain, parting is such sweet nasal relief. You delivered exactly what I expected, unfortunately.

Oh crikey, you're not going to Lincolnshire are you ? Do you need reinforcements from the Nottingham massiv ?

Or Skeg ? Are you going to Skeg ?

Of course, my platform is the one slowly being baked into submission. See the abundance of cover.

Sign offers some amusement.

My destination is thusly revealed to the enlightened. To the Notts Massiv, hello from the Midlands Massiv,Bewdley section.

This one is smooth and silk-like relatively. Just unfeasibly hot.

That's a nice run out to Norwich, particularly if it doesn't stop anywhere other than Grantham.

Chodspeed :)

We have achieved Grantham. Not sure if this is a stopper or not tbh....

Can’t remember if beige brown mobile has ac. Or functioning windows. Uh-oh.

Posted

I'd bloody well hope not!

Not half as much as me!

Rattling on fairly decently at the moment. Train about 3/4. I know why I’m going....

Don't EMAP live here iirc? From my Pb days...

Lynch Wood, Alwalton; Bauer now.

Thetford.

Of plastics fame. Cassette toilet and TMX helmets.

Hmm.

Literally nothing else of note since last missive. Although appropriately clothed seat neighbours are making the view inside somewhat more palatable. To be honest after book puke man anything is preferable.

If this isn't the world's oyster brown Frontera I'll be proper upset!

I forget about the flatness. It's flat.

That is the Netherlands, fool.
