Unfortunately, it's 700 miles from me, so I'm going to have to trailer it to the Czech Republic and get it all nice'n'pretty there. Then drive it home.

1000 miles in a 1300 Sport that's not been on the road for a good while. Prace bets now!

Cor, nice one. Good luck with that!. I'd be tempted to pull into the local equivalent of kwik-fit and get some new oil and brakes before coming home though. If thats been sitting a while, you may wish to invest in those at least. When you get back will you be keeping it or flicking it on for eleventy trillion pounds to a classic rallyist?Good luck with the trip!

It's going to my tame mechanic in Czech for a full going over before it goes anywhere. It needs welding, paint, front pads, battery, exhaust and a bloody good service (and probably 4 tyres). The engine has only done 18,000 miles - other than that it's pretty much unknown.I'll keep it for a short while, and then it's quite probably going for eleventy trillion pounds. It's going to owe me £3500+ by the time it's sorted and back here, registered so I'm unlikely to sell it for £100 in the local Loot. Having said that, it's very original so it would be a shame if it was butchered to make a "GP4 Rally RS2000/1800/Mexico Bucket seats and big discs" type car. When was the last time you saw a 1300 Sport? With a Phillips Turnolock radio. No cassette deck.

I would have thought the pedal rubber wouldn't be nearly that worn at 18k milesSurely it has to have 100,000km added to that?Good be a nice return on that one - I heard some filks were taking their cars up to Poland to be restored due to very cheapo costs. Some of the Germans I know go there to get their cars converted to LPG for around 600 Euro (with TUV Cert) vs 2000 Euro at home.

The car has done 169,000km, the engine has done 30,000km.I'm taking it to Czech because I know the bloke who'll be doing the job, and it would cost me a lot more to get it home and sorted here. It would cost me close to £1000 to trailer it back to the UK. Double ferry fare each way, 1500 miles of fuel, and 2 days driving each way (80 km/h in Germany with a UK trailer, A-Framin' is a no-no). This way I can fly to Prague, then it's 300 miles each way with the trailer, fix the car, trailer it back to Germany for TUV test and export reg and drive it home.

Well done you! Being LHD though, I could see it on the rally circuit, as it will be (slightly) less attractive than the RHD identical model.

Superb work! Do like a good international road trip. :D

that one could be worth converting to rhd while its in bits,i'm sure due to the irish insurance laws changing means no more left hookers for them.and thats where alot of potential buyers would hail from.just my tuppence worth though.

Fair enough, Personally, I'm totally against converting cars from LHD to RHD and vice versa so that wouldn't be happening whether the Irish guys want 'em or not.

Just had an e-mail from the owner of the Escort. Turns out someone else is going to view it on Saturday, if he doesn't buy it then it's mine.Fuxake.

So the seller is a man/woman of their word then.....

The e-mail from him is rather amusing. Obviously an online translation gubbin at play.."Hello Pete.On Saturday somebody comes over again and looks at the Escort. He has announced himself a few days earlier than you. I would leave him the chance to look at the car and to shop if he wanted. If it to do not shop comes you can have the car, promised.I announce myself on Saturday if the prospective customer was there and whether he buys the car or not.If you the car shop you can fetch it when you want. You simply say me when you want to come and I will be there.I hope you are not angry at me if the car is sold then."Almost Raymanboyesque...

 That's it! Raymonboy is using an online translator. Badly!

Oooh, bet that's a decision you regret. Then again, were they worthless at the time?

I would pray before statuesque Charlotte Rampling in the villa. Surfboard in the drawing room, rising slowly.Feeling as if there is no comparison, lack of money prevent cranium attaining MOT, although buyer request booked it can.Reminds me thus as if 16 valve John Grierson documentary slattern of baby grand, excellent pitch and tone.Regrettably, there was no chance of going for a walk that day.

Can you not risk it for a biscuit and send a small(ish) deposit?

yes it was the early 90s I was just a dumb kid who couldnt see it as anything but a rusty banger blocking up the parents driveway, it needed chassis rails welding and at that time I couldnt weld also it drank fuel and I was getting grief off random people in the village who saw me/heard me hooning about in it. Wasnt as thick skinned then and hadnt learnt my keeping shite on the road skillz!

To be fair you could have doffed your £150 on Google shares in the early 90's hindsight being what it is.

8) You've found a trustworthy Czech garage..... Interesting.I've been recommended a Hungarian one but It's that much further to drag a trailer to. Is he a 'craftsman' that can beat a perfect Mk2 jag wing from a frey bentos tin? If a potential deal comes off, I may well be in contact... Cheers

Am I the only one who thinks this is dodgy a fook? Sounds like he's trying to get you to hand over a deposit to stop this other chap having it but I just get the feeling that the car doesn't actually exist. I mean, scams on the internet involved old cars? Surely not!
