The mark 4 was launched in March 1986, so 4 months of C reg sales for Ford. I once had a D reg GL in silica gold that had brown bumpers.

That one must be one of the oldest mk4’s left then. Years ago a neighbour had a C reg Escort but it was a mk3 (pretty sure it was in ceramic blue).

That one is ceramic blue.

The toned colour bumpers came on Sierra’s too didn’t they? I’m sure I used to see a metallic red Sierra estate with them.

Yes, the Sierra was the first Ford to have body toned bumpers, from launch on GL and Ghia, later even the base Sierra had them.

The MK3 Granada had them on the whole range at launch.

There seem to be a few Chevettes around with this two tone paint scheme, all just badged as L rather than any special edition.  None of my brochures mention this paint scheme as an option!

I thought the same about the Chevette. I wonder if it was a two tone dealer edition type thing? 
Although, it could also be that its originally all the lighter gold colour and had lots of rust repairs lower down and they just did a lower half respray to cover it without doing the whole car? You can usually tell as there’s a bit of a ridge where the two colours meet if you run a finger over it. Not that I’d suggest going around rubbing other people’s cars of course😄
