Wack Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 My Peugeot 106 1.1 I think has a cambelt, and as it's my sole 4 wheeled transport I may get it done soon. It's not the cost if it goes bang (throw it way, innit) it would more be the inconvenience of an FTP possibly with kids on board etc. Do I feel lucky? As Clint would say if he owned this 106. Actually I presume he owns a Prius if he is still with us.He's very much still with us, has a new film out , just directing these days, he looks old though , but then he is 87
Tadhg Tiogar Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I'm a month overdue on the dailies cambelt and the fact that some of you lot are 15 years overdue makes me wonder if I shouldn't be losing too much sleep just yet! Can't remember ever doing the Borat TDi cambelt in the decade and about 100,000 miles I've been running it.
dollywobbler Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I hate cambelt roulette, which costs me a fortune. One of the first things I had done on the Lexus, which means it now owes me more than I'd ever get for it. At least I know the cambelt is alright. Honda was the same, but at least I've got some use out of that belt. Often, I'll get the belt done and then flog it without getting much use. Same often said for tyres.
bezzabsa Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 had the scenic done last week, along with a service... and after seeing the Horrid state of the air filter, I'd say both were well overdue!!! BorniteIdentity and stephen01 2
BorniteIdentity Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Seems a shame to throw away a car over a rubber band, doesn’t it? I’d not have worried at all about my Avensis - it’s a Toyota after all, and it’s a non interference engine too. Then Bub has one let go on his at 70 odd thou (the interval is 60k) and I’m now nervous as I’m on 72 and counting. I need to book it in really.
Rod/b Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I’ve had three cambelt related FTPs all on the same car - a SEAT Leon 1.4. Never the belt itself that failed but two water pump failures and a tensioner failure. Luckily none of which caused a massive engine FUBAR but all of which happened well within the stated cambelt lifespan. VAG SHITE. Never again.

Those engines have one of the most half-arsed belt drives ever designed... I don't think that even the likes of Renault would have dared putting it in production : Lacquer Peel 1

I don't think that even the likes of Renault would have dared putting it in production : Now you mention it the tensioner related FTP was on the relay belt. We were in rural west wales late one night and heard a n awful noise, pulled over and it was coming from the TB cover. Stopped engine and called recovery. The garage it was recovered to said the relay belt tesioner had gone and both belts had shifted across against the cover. Luckily* we dodn’t have to worry about it after the third time as my Mrs eventually killed it by launching it Dukes of Hazzard style across a roundabout on the Leighton Buzzard bypass, landing in a grass verge across the opposite junction. Third car to hit it that night.
