1.8 Vs 2.0tdci which wins?

Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk

Good mate has a 1.8 titanium, which I have done a few jobs on. I would put the performance somewhere between dogshit and acceptable depending on mood. The way they halbdle and seem to love being chucked around was a very pleasant surprise for such a big heavy machine, but it seems ford took over from Peugeot in the perfect balance between ride and handling stakes, some time around the last 306 being built.

That said I’d sooner have a 2.0 hdi than a 1.8, which seems to bear a resemblance to the old sierra donkey

2.0 out of the crate but 1.8 if the wet belt has been jibbed for a chain.

2.0. Never had any issues with mine, and my dad still runs one, also issue free.

What is the 2.0 petrol like ? Is it chain driven ? Is it reliable? The 2.0 in my mk1 Mazda 6 seems bullet proof.

Treated the TXS to x4 new Uniroyal Rainsport 3’s (same as l previously ran), and a Hunter four wheel alignment.

I also finally have my Convers Mod installed TPMS working, as I purchased x4 Continental JLR sensors from a bloke on eBay who removes them from brand new wheels.

I was waiting until I needed to change the tyres.

So good to finally be rid of the x4 ‘flat tyre’ warnings that I have had since summer, every time I start the engine. (Yeah I need to drop the pressures.)

I have two of the 2.0 petrol Duratec engines, one in a mk3 and the other in a mk4.   They're really nice engines and I've had no real trouble with either in 50k miles.   The mk3 once needed a coil pack (£25-ish and 15 minutes to fit) and the mk4 hasn't had anything but service items.   The mk4 felt a bit down on power when I got it, but that was fixed with a new set of plugs.

If anything, I think the engine in the mk3 feels torquier than the mk4 and it's slightly more economical. I suspect much of this is because it's a lighter car but also because they've got different inlet manifolds, one being Euro 3 and the other Euro 4.

If Ford offered their Mondeo hybrid as a hatch and with a warranty of more than 60,000 miles I'd of bought one.

Speaking of other countries, my uncle in Perth has bought a mk5.

I like his number plate.

William Arthur Waites, born in 1954. Good job he isn’t living in Queensland or whatever.

I'm Def tempted to jump on this bandwagon too.

Are the 2.0TDCI a PSA lump? There's a few very cheap ones locally for sale with mega miles, normally I wouldn't touch anything with 150k+ but there are quite a few running around with near double that mileage so I guess it's buy on condition ignoring the odometer?

A couple are clearly ex-taxi, so the old adage that a taxi man won't sell unless it's fucked says run away but this looks well:

I saw one on Gumtree this morning. 1.8TD with a bollocksed engine presumably the wet belt gone, £250. I think it was an 09 plate. Looked tidy as well.

I'm sure it's been asked many times before.... mk4 2.0 tdci timing belt interval of 125k. Mine will need done... online horror stories about the chain between the cams failing. True or bollox?

Yeah, PSA/Ford collab. Buy on condition. Have a drive of that one and see how it feels? Should have stacks of life left in it at that mileage

My old one had 190K on when I sold it, only ever had the cam belt and tensioner done, no issues.

Same with the old mans, he is on 160K.

Tough as old boots (for a common rail).

Unfortunately as previous poster pointed out - it's a saloon. No use for dog transportation or tip runs unfortunately

Yeah, I wouldn’t buy a saloon. But some people on here really lust after them.

TBH I usually prefer saloons to hatches on looks, but the Mondeo just looks better as a hatch....the saloon in my eyes looks a bit awkward

Estate for me. I reckon that style has them looking their best, but a hatch can be smart.

I really liked my old TX. Especially after I fitted the Sport kit.

If it was me looking, I’d be wanting a TX, personally.

Overrun that certainly was a pretty hatch

Cheers, dude. I always care for my cars, but fitting the kit etc transformed the looks for me.

I guess it dependa what you want from a car, but I have trouble leaving them alone.

The current estate will attest to that. :-)

I recommend joining some of the FB groups, they are pretty handy.

There are also many 'interesting' looking cars on them!

Here's my TX, pre-Sport kit.

That looks fantastic!! Agreed the estate is the best looker but don't see as many for sale.

titanium X with the sport kit is perfect, though I'm really after a workhorse so don't want to ruin anything fancy.

I'll see how Faker gets on with his first
