sierraman Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I'm a bit of a idiot when it comes to IT, I've pondered about buying either of these given I only ever seem to buy Fords. I've seen the plug in type thing on eBay, what else would I need apart from a laptop to use this diagnostic system? Is it easy to use, or in fact does it work?
Captain Furious Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I've used Forscan after a recommendation from here. So far i've used it to diagnose an ABS fault on my mk3 Mondeo and an alarm fault on my mates Mk4 - its a pretty awesome piece of software. All you need is the ELM? adapter from ebay which is about 7 quid and the software is a free download. you can download it and use it in demo mode to get an idea what it can do. No idea about F Super but definite thumbs up for forscan.
sierraman Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Right, so I can use it off my laptop with windows 10 on it. What level of access does it give you?
Captain Furious Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Well, like I say, the best bet is to download it and try it out in demo mode - you can do this without needing the adapter and its good for getting an idea what it can do. There are 2 licences - the free version, which basically allows you to read all modules, perform self-tests on various systems, do live data logging, reset fault codes, some very limited coding (ie I think you can code injectors on TDCi's for example) Or the advanced licence, which presumably you have to pay for, and that allows you to turn optional features on and off, code new keys etc.
wuvvum Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I have F Super - it sounds like it does pretty much the same as the free version of Foreskin. Couldn't code the injectors on my Mondeo TDCi, but apparently that's because it's an early car - it's supposed to do later TDCi's with no problem.
sierraman Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 What a fucking choice of name though... When you say code keys how does it do this?
Captain Furious Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I don't know to be honest, I have never tried the advanced licence - presumably the same way criminals do it on your driveway at 3am. sierraman 1
egg Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 SiC is your man on this - I think he pointed me towards a genuine connector lead on eBay.
steveo3002 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 got the forscan on windows 10 lappy...seems pretty good , although it doesnt work itself , meaning you need to know what you want to scan and what readings to expect and so on ..although same for any machine worse things you can spend £20 on...seems pretty impressive
