54-plate fiesta ABS problems NOW CLUTCH PROBLEMS

Something I don't have an answer for is: how do you stop all the fluid dripping out the end of the placca clutch pipe while the gearbox is off? It's well annoying. I put some polythene under the fluid reservoir lid, and I've cable-tied the corner of a poly bag over the open pipe end but it carried on leaking and just looked like a little colostomy bag full of DOT 4 after about 10 mins.

I used one of those dust caps, the sort of things you get on a wheel cyl bleed nipple.

Seem to recall it stemmed most of the flow

Well this thing is back in the game thankfully. Bought two new suspension pinch bolts from the local spark plug shop, one stripped its thread with like 2lb/ft on it and had to be chopped off again! Wanker. Also used my new oil syringe which was a bloody marvel for refilling the gearbox. Overall fairly painless, I just wish I was a bit more RIPPED for lifting the gearbox back into place, but I did get it back in with not too much profanity. Used an 'alignment tool' made from a 3/8 extension and insulation tape which did the biz thankfully.

Now the clutch is MEGA light, it's quite disconcerting! Mrs Nuts kangarooed off down the road on her first drive. Still, she's well happy that the car is fixed for £100 or whatever. Win!

Clutch Alignment tool for winnaz.

You could get a job down on the farm with a syringe that big.

This lack of drain plug, let it piss out of the driveshaft apertures is something I'm not liking on modern shite.

Sealed for life is sealed until it goes bang. I get that modernnoils are superior in the lube department, last longer and all of that, but you still end up with a bag of filings in the old oil and when you can't drain it all out....

Still, the manufacturers don't care, make it so it just outlasts the warranty period innit.

It is amazing how light new clutches are compared to the shagged original, all that dust and shit. A new cable on a cable operated system can also have the same effect.

You should be well up on points to spend in the man cave now.

Well this Fiesta has only done about 75k or something and the engine and box are pretty mint, although is it one SLOW ASS VEHICLE. I’m sure it should be livelier but theres nowt obviously awry - sounds OK, starts on the button, averages 40 mpg, no lights on or owt…. it just feels asthmatic.

Has it ever had a cambelt?

My ex's was gutless after some idiot* did it and didn't time the cams properly. The idiot had used tippex etc to bodge it, crazy as the proper tool is about £6 & a doddle to use.

*not me for once, I just had to fix it.

Concerning the oil, I took the detent thingy out as advised earlier in the thread, that did get a lot out. But then when I was fitting the new slave cylinder I tipped the box to get a better look and..... glug glug glug. FFS man. I've got a big bag of sawdust for mopping stuff up but the driveway is a bit of a mess now admittedly.

Do you know I was wondering about this myself. It has had a cambelt, previous to Mrs Nuts buying it. It's about the only thing i can think of that might cause a general absence of performance with no warning lights or other obvious side effects.

Aye there was no warning lights on her's either, it eventually* burnt a valve out due to running lean. If you pop the rocker cover off & rotate the engine the slots in the end of the cams (LH side of the car) should line up so you can slip a 6mm (I think) plate in. I've got the draper tools somewhere, there is a pokey thing you screw in the back of the block, turn the engine till the crank stops & then the 6mm bar fits in the cams if it's all timed right. If not just loosen the pullies, adjust it & tighten them back up with threadlock.

Cheers Hooli, I think I might give that a whirl, I see that tool costs next to nowt so its worth a try I think.

Good work there. It’s only when you have a new clutch fitted you realise how heavy the old one was. When I went from the previous Mk2 to the one I have now the clutch on the old one was like setting concrete whereas the new one was lovely and light, no judder or anything.
