Djimbob's estate of affairs, one of them probably has to go!!

Thanks to Eddy ramrod, I have the skillz to put photos on again after the great photobucket fiasco of recent times rendered me useless!

I currently seem to have collected a bunch of estate cars recently, my normal preference being people carriers and luxo barges, but I am enjoying comparing the various marques etc.

Anyhoo, lets start with the Pug 405 I swapped for the Saab convertible ish with Eddy -

That's the swapping of the rather shot exhaust, which was causing no end of stalling and poor running - now runs a treat when warm, still a little lumpy in the first couple of minutes after starting, but transformed over all, would lend Our Lass for work now, although she doesn't like the scruffiness much apparently - she's insane as far as I can tell, the interior is magnificent :)

Here is the Rover 75 I bought off 6 cylinder late last year - runs very well for nearly twice round the clock :) Perfect really aside from electric mirrors not operating, and the heater doesn't seem to get up to the temps I would expect, but comfy enough even in the freezing conditions of late - I am conflicted as it doesn't have a towbar for dragging my shed, and the mileage is high enough to worry me somewhat, but damn it is in good nick, presentable, but is Rover! (forgot to mention there is a clunck from the front end, a ball joint I suspect, and the ABS light is on all the time, but long MOT)

Bugger, seem to have misplaced pics of my Sedona, so have a random pic of a thing I spotted on the isle of harris in scotchland for funsters -

post-20048-0-71924400-1515583238_thumb.jpg

And why not have a look at my old dodge 50 hippy bus from that trip :)

post-20048-0-89649500-1515583400_thumb.jpg

My Kia Sedona is parked up at my yard with stick front brakes, but is otherwise fine, aside from a bit of tinworm on the front wings, and is annoyingly soldiering on and bloody useful - I keep looking for excuses to get rid, but then it saves the day over and over again with it's versatility and reliability - I just don't love it much at all ;(

One of these really needs to go, or more, as Our Lass drives a kia Magentis, daugther has a Lexus RX300, and I'm not really officially employed, I just can't work out which one to keep, or more, or sell them all and get something else - goddammit!

Anyway, more pics to come as I fanny around with them, they are all decent motors, but I haven't got room for all of them, and I have had them all long enough to be fairly confident they're good mechanically :)

Mirrors on the 75 should* be an easy fix. The little circle control on the door panel control gets a bit gummed up, take it apart, clean the contact, i used a eraser and build it back up and bingo, working mirrors.

I may be interested in 405. I really really miss mine.

That Dodge 50! I'll see if I can find any of the pics I took of us painting over the hideous array of colours it was sporting when you got it. The interior was an amazing piece of work.

Do you remember the reg number? I bet it's still chuntering around somewhere.

Noticed my 75 wasn't making as much heat as it used to, turned out to be low on coolant!

Blimey, I didn't realise there was so much love for the 405, it is indeed probably my favourite on the fleet, as evidenced by keeping as many tools in the boot as I can (previously kept them in my transit camper which I sorely miss now - just so damn versatile).

I haven't worked out a price or anything, nor really seriously considered getting rid of any of them in particular except for the Sedona, however I guess I'll be more specific about the Pug and it's "quaint" frenchness, and see how you chaps and chapesses feel about it all?

It's taxed to get you home, tested to 16th Sept 2018, has been pranged and repaired in 2008 according to an old V5, drives very well, all the brakes are good with plenty of meat on the fronts for sure as I checked, drove well back from Lancaster to Leeds when I swapped it with Eddy for "his" Saab :)

I've noticed the following issues - the alloy wheel centre caps are missing and on a quick ebay search pretty bloody rare.

There are various age related marks around the bodywork but hey, it's a '95, with a galvanised body which is very cool, see pics.

All the door speakers were shot to bits, so I have bodged some household speakers in with varying levels of success, the original stereo I removed for the bluetooth/cd/mp3 enabled one  - I kept the original if you want it, and still have the cd changer which didn't work. Sounds ok now, but you may wish a tidier set up :-P

The immobiliser/ alarm sets the lights blinking for about fifteen seconds when you open doors, even if you start the car - but then happily stops.

The central locking only works on the passenger door for all doors - meh.

The electric door mirrors and heated seats don't work - again, meh.

All in, bloody good car, shouldn't sell as it's the only car in the fleet with a towbar, but if i do, I can get my Dad's toyota hiace camper for a few weeks and do some work on it for him, and drive it around, and it does have a towbar, which is nice :-D

Have some pics for the time being  -

Note the tartan cloak of invisibility, if them fucking hobbits had been down to Netto and got a job lot of these that trilogy would have been about ten minutes long :) Seriously, never been bothered when I chuck one or more over all my tools over at least the last ten years! The load cover is cool as well, it has a little extension part too to make life easier to get at stuff at the back of the boot.

Note the newish bloody big battery - I took it off my transit when I flogged it to the exporter chap and put the smoll battery off the Pug on the transit - it's new in the last couple of years and had an easy life as there were two of them, so that's nice :) On that note, I suspect the starter is in it's final years of life as it doesn't spin the engine over as fast as I'd like  - they're NOS about £35 on the bay so no biggie if it carks it. The only reason this is in my head is that I recently replaced the starter on the Sedona and that transformed it no end :)

Right then, it owe's me about £450, so that is what I'd like really, feedback welcomed please, will swap for auto camper/van/truck/minibus otherwise cash please, or a mega scooter, oh hell I don't know! (I'm an autobox supporter nowadays so no stickshifts please unless insanely cool or a motorbike, ta :)

That Talbot library bus was seized solid, and had to be dragged out of there with a tractor. Check out the fire engine the Dodge had for a room mate!

I thought we did quite a good job! Happy days.

I was going to ask about your Transit but then saw further down that it's gone. Sad face.

That thing was one of my highlights of last year's SF. I've never seen a camper like it.

£450 is a fair price for the 405, imo.

The GLX centre caps had a habit of destroying themselves very early in the cars' life, they don't secure to the wheels well and jettison themselves.

Rx300 available?

Not really, daughter likes it, also spent many months persuading her to let me buy it for her ;) if it comes available i'll let you know, but it's bloody brilliant if very thirsty :)

Wow, those pics of us painting the bus, amazing we've actually become less competent over the decades - I give you the dodgy transit smoothrite job as evidence :-P :-P

Why the hell did I sell that??

the transit was monumentally rotten on the sills, and large chunks of it were literally falling off in front of my eyes, but I do miss it, that van was the best one I've ever owned for sheer comfort and usefulness 8)

Got any pics of my old LDV ambulance with the rover v8 in Jaz??

We might have got worse at painting, but at least we don't look any older or fatter or anything

I don't think I have any pics of the V8 ambulance, sadly. I will have a rummage though...

No ambulance on this CD, but there is some other weapons grade shite of yours...

SORNed about the same time as the Dodge:

Woah!!

Top footage dude, would you believe I recently sold a caravan cover to the guy who bought the library bus off me - both off ebay - we were chatting about our love of various shite  - he had just finished renovating a Unimog and needed said cover for it - and he said it ended up in Scotland or somewhere after he kitted it out!

If you recall I blew that Dodge caravan up which was on lpg, sold it to a lad who plainly did not have the skillz to sort it :(

I do not miss that Beemer one jot - didn't get on with it at all :-P

Posted

Love that Dodge camper, it's a big old thing too!

I'd love a 50 myself. We had some at work, the last two left were retired around 2010ish. Both were Southern Electric panel vans that outlived all the other ones as they were fitted out as cable pressure testing and fault location trucks. The gear fitted inside the back of them was expensive so they tended to last a long time and be looked after much more than the basic vans.

One was an L reg Renault version, the other was an A reg Dodge still wearing that really old greenish Southern Electric livery! They were slow as fuck but drove brilliantly! Nobody messed with you in one of those!

The A reg one was the last to go, it was a bit rusty underneath but I wanted to buy it from them! Unfortunately it was scrapped before I could do anything about it.

I remember it developing a knock and you moving it on, shame it didn't get fixed.

I didn't like the Beemer either - I couldn't get my feet on the floor properly, and that was even with that cut-down Corbin seat!

I would love an auto box one again, maybe 4x4 if they did them in that flavour, but they are probably too rare and rotten, and parts hard to come by, really ought not sensible head on ;)

we all know how this will end of course :)

Little bump, with the news the Sedona went long ago!

Pug and Rover still available for sale or swapz, the Missus' Kia Magentis is going to strugle to pass the MOT in 6 weeks or so, so we're on the lookout for a similar barge, auto, petrol, has to be very reliable, aircon, thinking Japanese/Korean as she has an irrational hatred of just about everything else esp Teutonic and estate cars (I know, she only recently confessed to that)! Volvo's of all flavours are out as well it turns out :(

So anyone with a Honda Legend, Nissan Maxima, lexus GS/LS, Kia Magentis/ Hyundai Sonata, please pipe up :)

Posted

looks like the Pug is off to Skattrd after I've finished dragging my shed around the country next weekend to my mate's party in Gloucester, could do with a buyer for the Rover next, but that has a test until 8/6/18 so probably best to get a new MOt on it - it has the ABS warning light on which is the only potential big deal I can see, I will let you all know how that goes when I get it back from my Dad's in Manchester (I have his Hiace camper doing the electrics and bits and bobs before he sells that on).

So to reiterate, anyone got a big old jap barge for the Missus please :)

I have long stood back in wonder at the boggling chod achieved by djimbob over the years.
