Colt just FTPed and I don't have any tools with me. Autoaid to the rescue

Bugger. Does it definitely have fuel? RobT did mention something about the autochoke occasionally playing up, but it was perfect during my many hundreds of miles.

Yeah I think the battery has died or something's blown leading to the starter - I don't have tools or a jump pack with me

Bother! I once had to call out the AA when all I needed was a pair of pliers. That was annoying.

Recovery truck from the firm they said was coming just arrived - to collect another car from the same place! Fuck sake!

The Oldsmobile is now a step nearer to going in for the MOT. Have re fitted the transmission pan with new gasket and re filled it with ATF. Taken it for a cheeky drive round the block and all seems ok. (It is insured). Just no MOT/tax yet. Once I have replaced all the brake pads later this week it will be going in for the MOT. The replacement monoleaf metal transverse rear spring seems to be doing the job. Happy so far!

Re: Monoleaf...

What are you to do with the 'spring compressor'? Did you say you had to buy a brand new one....

Big 'sell-on' market then... like RollySpits 8)

Ah, yes. The spring compressor. Bought used on ebay USA. Hopefully I won't need it again! It is massive, really well made and a proper good tool! Almost aerospace quality (I worked at Rolls Royce in Derby for four years). No idea what to do with it now! Weight around 15kg.

Don't know if it's northern Ireland specific but LIDL have some car stuff - trolley jacks, axle stands, trickle chargers etc, worth a look

More a stupid question, but related to my earlier post. Are the metal pipes running from the fuel tank to the carbon canister thingy (vent pipes?) likely to fail the MOT if crusty?

Are they leaking? If not I'd have a go at cack handedly tidying them up with emery paper and some hammerite, at least it'll slow down the rot a bit

Hard to say if they are leaking as they are (presumably) just vent pipes from the tank. Rusty as heck tho.

Fuel pipes - if crusty, advise. If leaking fail.

Not actually fuel pipes, just vent pipes I think. Running from the top of the tank to a canister.

Probably not worth worrying about. I wouldnt go near them if you think they'll fall apart trying to clean them.

*awaits someone who actually tests cars for a living correcting me!
