OwdChina Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 It never rains in California - you must have the California only wiper delete package... He's right you know, most of the old trucks we get involved with the wipers don't work, the washer bottle aint seen water for decades and if the screen gets grubby it gets a wipe with a squeegee at the gas station. We use these people for truck parts, very helpful, they do cars too. Put em on speed dial.https://cgfordparts.com/index.php Joloke and danthecapriman 2
OwdChina Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 LoL ........it's probably not been used for a while and gone a bit manky inside. Dried grease, filthy brushes / armature etc. And check the fuse. danthecapriman and Joloke 2
danthecapriman Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 LoL ........it's probably not been used for a while and gone a bit manky inside. Dried grease, filthy brushes / armature etc. And check the fuse.This. If the cars been sat around any length of time you will get issues arising from that. Lack of use fucks stuff up unfortunately.I suspect you’re going to have to go through your wiring and lights, fuse box etc connections and give it a good check over the clean up with some contact cleaner and a scotch pad to get things working again. Give the earths etc a good clean and tighten up too.Washers are likely the same, lack of use etc etc!A model making fibreglass pencil can be really handy for cleaning up electrical contacts btw and cost bugger all.One of these, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fibre-Glass-Scratch-Pen-Pencil-Brush-Clean-Remove-Rust-Dirt-Pen-Watch-Free-P-P/111741724919?hash=item1a045368f7:g:ceAAAOSw09FZzRB7 I had the same with mine as it’d been laid up since 1995!Also don’t forget this car won’t have been through annual MOT type checks like ours get so if things break or become faulty there’s a good chance nobody would care and carry on using it regardless. danthecapriman Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Turn signal switch doesn’t seem overly bad. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1975,mustang+ii,5.0l+302cid+v8,1134458,electrical-switch+&+relay,turn+signal+switch,4832 Possibly available even cheaper via eBay US? Has someone had your car apart before?
OwdChina Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Yes just checked the workshop manual theres a circuit breaker. Might be better in the meantime to pull the motot and check if it turns and grease everything up I am guessing so long as its not completely seized there is not a lot to go wrong with them? As for the washer not factory but something like this I am thinking? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-12V-SINGLE-OUTLET-KIT-1-8-LITRE-BAG-WINDSCREEN-WASHER-WATER-PUMP/331616706641?hash=item4d35e56051:g:BtgAAOSwu4BVzdiSYup, a good clean and there's a good chance it'll be ok. Same with the washer pump, it should come apart too. And make sure spray nozzles are not clogged.
eddyramrod Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Nothing to add really Jo, just: good luck! Have you found MiniStang again yet?
spartacus Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I don't know where you got the new seat belts from Jo but if you take a look on the Britax web site or contact them I would think they could help you, they seem to have every permutation of belts possible.Good luck. Don't let the miserable neighbors get you down, even if they don't like cars it's no excuse for rudeness or lack of tact. So fuck 'em. drum, eddyramrod and Joloke 3
spartacus Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Maybe I'm thinking of Securon. Sorry for the confusion! Edit. I've just checked and I was. Joloke 1
vulgalour Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Progress is progress, no matter how small it seems! Grumpy neighbour solution is to ignore them completely. Responding to jibes only seems to give them more power, but acting as though they don't even exist when they're right in front of you tends to knock the wind out of their sails pretty hard *and* requires no effort at all on your part, which is an added bonus. We love shitestang, you love shitestang, who cares what anyone else thinks? danthecapriman, spartacus, drum and 3 others 6
danthecapriman Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 What Vulg says.Progress is progress, and that’s good. Bollocks to the brain dead prat neighbour. Once it’s running just be sure to give them a V8 wake up call early doors! eddyramrod, Dan_ZTT and Joloke 3
drum Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Neighbour has no taste. Shitestang looks great.I take it it wasn't mad Frankie? Joloke 1
Dan_ZTT Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I'm a stranger on the internet and I love the shitestang. Ignore the idiot, you're doing a great thing here. Joloke 1
PhilA Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 1) tail lights aren't far off how these seem to illuminate, apart from the one that isn't. 2) it's changed climate, things that have had very little humidity and stuff inside them will now start to be awkward 3) all that crap on the belt rubbers is likely nicotine and the plasticizers from the material mixed up, particularly so if it had a slightly earwax sort of feel to it 4) neighbors are just jealous. Ignore. 5) yes expensive now but there new parts should see out your ownership of the vehicle. 6) motor probably just jammed up with crappy old grease now damp and congealed up from sea voyage and clement British weather. Take apart, clean, probably work again. Ditto screen wash bottle. Sand is likely from the water put in at gas stations over the years, unless the lid is missing then it is just sand 7) don't get disheartened. It'll run again, it's made from pig iron. Fix it with hammers usually. Phil Joloke, eddyramrod, cort1977 and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Re: neighbor- I did find that a V8 with twin straight pipes and no cross-balancer tube, early morning with ice on the car is always a good one. Outside, crank it a while on choke, finally it fires and sits running real lumpy. Pfaff with choke a bit and go inside.Wait for it to get too warm to run on choke and it dies. Go outside, churn the engine until it fires. Rev it a few times to clear the pooled fuel in the intake. Re-set choke, go inside to finish tea and rice krispies. Usually it'll be warm enough now but will have a loping idle on a bit too much choke that is enough to set any curtain-twitcher's teeth on edge. Once the screen is clear, go to work in the warm. Yoss Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 If you want to annoy the neighbour without talking to him (though it sounds like you've got plans of your own) I'll come and park my Triumph outside. That has matt black bits and the bits that aren't are three different shades of Damson. Plus the interior is mixed black and red. That'll play havoc with his OCD. I'm sure I'm not the only one here with a car like that. Good luck with the other bits, none of them sound too drastic on their own, as above, just tick them off one at a time dont think of them all at once. Joloke 1
richardthestag Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 sounds like your neighbour might have a fit if shitefest V8 regiment were to perform synchronised drive by fusible links might just be the root of a lot of your electric issues. when they work the are good at preventing lectric car fires when they dont work they are a right pita My RR has concealed fusible links in the loom behind the battery wrapped up in a bundles of gauze and tape, sounds like what you have? ABS light came on a while back. 12v everywhere but the pump wasnt running, replaced pump, still not working. after messing with it for hours I ran a wire from battery straight to the abs main fuse, bypassing the fusible link and it all started working again. gah unwrapped the fusible link section after a pointer from landyzone forum, identified the orange wire with colour tracer for the abs circuit. cut it and ran a wire direct from battery positive to the cut wire bypassing the FL. working again I bought one of these, designed for newer RR idea is to cut the loom where all the fusible link bundle is, run a big fat battery lead from battery +ive to the terminal on the top of this box and then connect the loom into the bottom. then I will a) spot a blown fusible link easily next timeb ) swap a blown fusible link in 10 seconds mind you the issue ^^ i had was getting on for 10 years ago. must get around to it soon edited to add, when I bodged the abs wiring issue first I did notice that the fusible link bundle was a mass of corroding wires and crap. white oxidised powder and rust. gah. It will not be getting any better so I will fit that box and report back Joloke, danthecapriman and eddyramrod 3
danthecapriman Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 It’s still your car, so just keep working on it to get it to the point of MOT.Do you have a copy of the Title? Maybe you can use that instead? Here’s a link that tells you exactly what you need to register the car here https://www.import-car.info/registrationMaybe worth getting the required forms and filling them out ready. Don’t despair! It’ll come good. richardthestag and Joloke 2
DodgeRover Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Just send the bare minimum and make sure you keep copies of everything.I didn't think they would even let a car out of the US without sight of the title? cort1977, richardthestag and Joloke 3
panhard65 Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Sods Law guess what just turned up in the post................................................................................. But confused though theres another document stappled to it the registration card do I need to include that too? Id rather not if I dont have to as it has a totally different number on than that of the Original Title.................. its needs just one thing for doovla to throw a hissy fitThe DVLA are fairly good at this and send back any documentation that they don't need. When I imported my hearse I sent all the paperwork I had been given and they sent back the Historic registration card as they didn't need it. It is worth copying everything though just in case it gets lost at the DVLA.
danthecapriman Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Glad you have the Title now! Don’t send the registration card, they shouldn’t need it.Only send the required documents and ID. Make copies of everything, just incase. Just send the bare minimum and make sure you keep copies of everything.I didn't think they would even let a car out of the US without sight of the title? That’s spot on. The docks in the US would simply refuse to load the car without having its Title, even copies are not good enough. Must be an original document. That’s where I got stuck as mine had no Title, got to the docks in NY and that was that until I got the car completely reregistered in the US in order to get a new Title. My car originally came from Georgia but the dealer I bought it from was based in Illinois so my cars Title actually came from there. Stupid having to do all that really but in their defence they didn’t know me or the car and it could have been a stolen car for all they knew. Datsuncog and Joloke 2
PhilA Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 No, just send the title. The registration... Should have remained in the USA. Oh well. Also, what's considered "major fault" by UK standards is generally "minor gripe but the car still runs and stops so meh" here, particularly in states with no safety inspection. California is all about the smog- so long as the exhaust is good the rest of the car can fall apart around the engine. Things done the same but differently. Thing is, it can be fixed and it'll be good. Shite, but good. Phil Datsuncog, Joloke, cort1977 and 3 others 6
richardthestag Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 sounds like good progress on the title I regularly sound off or hassle folks when something I am expecting doesnt show. and more often than not moments after making an arse of myself it shows up So autospark is in hand registration is in hand and it goes how can we help fix your mojo Jo? danthecapriman, Joloke and eddyramrod 3
danthecapriman Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Jo, if you want a mojo boost come on down here at some point. You can have a go in ‘The Beast’ and sample land yacht size and big block goodness! Joloke, richardthestag and eddyramrod 3
vulgalour Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Does this help? DodgeRover, cort1977, danthecapriman and 5 others 8
danthecapriman Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Does this help? KCob.jpgThat is cool as fuck! Joloke 1
danthecapriman Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Looks great! Glad your mojo is returning. Once it’s at least running (hopefully after auto sparks has seen it) you can fire it up and ‘test’ drive it. That should give you a bit of a boost. Once summer hits and the weather warms up I’d get your carpets wet vac’d. I did them that way in a few of my cars and it really brings even the shittiest carpets up well again. Just leave the doors/windows open while it’s warm and dry to let it air dry properly over a couple of days. Joloke 1
They_all_do_that_sir Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 I think I would just submit all the paperwork required to the DVLA and forget about it until they contact you. In the meantime continue to work away at the car and eventually you'll get a letter. Chances are some busy civil servant somewhere will do the minimum to make sure all is in order and process the application. This car is a toy, the reason you have it is to derive pleasure from it so try and focus on the bits you have control over and get a few easier jobs done as that will restore the mojo big time. Sent from my F3211 using Tapatalk mat_the_cat, richardthestag, spartacus and 2 others 5
vulgalour Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 It could just be a mistake on the name. Perhaps he sold it to someone else, filled out the paperwork, and was messed about so had to scribble it out and put yours in there instead? If you have concerns about the legality of ownership, I'd contact both the DVLA and whichever relevant body it is in the States just to confirm that everything is legitimate. Worst case scenario is of course that it isn't all okay, but we shan't worry about that because there's no point. From what you've described about the condition of the car it sound more likely that it was simply a sale that fell through and nothing more sinister than that. It is looking quite presentable now after all that hard work. If the carpets are in reasonable shape apart from the staining, I can't recommend the Simply Spray range of carpet dyes highly enough to revive an old carpet, it even covers rust staining, and it's likely a lot cheaper than a replacement carpet. mercedade and Joloke 2
