Is it still possible to buy a "nailed on" classic car for less than two grand?

Dave: if you need rear discs for the 300E, I've rediscovered the spare set that mine came with.

I've just been going through the classifieds online for the first time in a while and fuck me things have shot up in the last couple of years.

I was looking at replacing my Corsa with a cared for giffer spec E30 316 not long ago with a budget of around £1500. I'd need to double that now. Same for Porsche 924s, I swear you could blag on on the road for less than £2k not long ago but a 924S in nice nick now seems to be £4-6k!

I reckon a jaunt over to the Continent to buy something decent for decent money is deffo the way forwards...

Nah, what you need to do is keep a careful eye on this very forum and pounce when you find something you like.  Buy with confidence, buy Shite!

Even your Dolomite would get well over a grand with a ticket on it in the open market. Even in January.

That's my usual tactic but the joys of car that's not utterly shagged would be nice to experience. Had I not been in a state of complete and utter financial desolation I'd have bought that Oxford Traveller in a heartbeat!

I know, it is vaguely terrifying considering I overpaid for the thing at £1400 just 5 years ago and it was MUCH more presentable at that point... Although despite the massive jump in it's market value I've still managed to sink several thousand quid into it and end up with a car worth less than I paid for it!

What REALLY boggles the mind is that I paid £850 for a roadworthy 1850HL with a year's ticket just a year later...

.... Buy with confidence, buy Shite!

You know it makes sense.
