The Moog Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 That looks a good job Tom. Do you weld outside or in a workshop? D Spares & Tyres 1
D Spares & Tyres Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Thanks! Outside on my driveway. Much prefer working outdoors. Better light and ventilation. The Moog 1
1duck Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 i had a later 1.5 almera, gave up all faith in the thing after i managed to spin it out twice...admittedly, i was going too fast for both corners, but in my defense the gearbox was giving up the ghost as was the clutch so i had to maintain speed as otherwise it was a faff trying to row it back up the gears. For the money they are really well spec'd cars and it's just a shame nissan ruined the later ones with the whole chainstretch worry issue.
Stanky Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Yeah, the QG family of engines was noticably worse than the rock solid GA family IMHO.
The Moog Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Thanks! Outside on my driveway. Much prefer working outdoors. Better light and ventilation.thats good news, I need to get my arse into gear and start practicing. Was a little put off by doing it outside to be fair.
big_al_granvia Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 they were built in sunderland, had a 2005 n16 since 2006, diff bearings gave up at 30k so gearbox overhauled with primera diesel internals. brake calipers have a habit of siezing, to be fair i have only done the nearside twice. spend a bit of time underneath with wire brushes and underseal. still going strong. ProgRocker 1
loserone Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 I thought the n15s were indeed like a deep purple live album. Quite liked my dad's. My n16 was shit. ProgRocker 1
ProgRocker Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 My N16 is 'so so'. It had a hard life by the time I bought it. I wish I spent the extra £ and bought the sporty looking 05 reg Corolla 1.6 vvti.
D Spares & Tyres Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 Had a look at the other side. It seemed slightly better initiallyBut after I had attacked it with a grinder it turned out to be worse...Another Y tho. But I killed himNow where do I start the rebuild? One step at a time. Have used much thicker metal than it left the factory with. Easier to weld and stronger.Had to remove the back seat and some trim in case it caught fire for this bit!Looks a bit better nowTomorrow's job, small plate on the front inner wing then wax the whole underside and box sections! ProgRocker, The Moog, mrbenn and 3 others 6
stonedagain Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Are these N15s built in Japan? N15 built in Japan, N16 built in Sunderland. ProgRocker and D Spares & Tyres 2
sierraman Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Very tidy work there. Well worthwhile for piece of mind.
D Spares & Tyres Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 Very tidy work there. Well worthwhile for piece of mind. After all the hassle involved in replacing the green one I want this one to last as long as possible. These are such good cars though, I think that once the rot is sorted, this thread will be over.
