Thanks, confirmed as stolen in Bletchingley, near Redhill.

So, what happens to these when they're nicked?

Will they fit in a container so they can be sent to NZ or somewhere else where they drive on the correct side of the road or would they be hidden in a place with a load of caravans and broken up.

A different identity and registration, a change of stickers and decals, and sold in a local paper hundreds of miles away from where it was stolen.  As soon as it's sold (for cash) the vendor will dissappear off the face of the earth.

Bastards!

At work we had a generator truck stolen from a substation! It's a big set mounted to the back of a big truck. They ripped the cables out of the back of it (they were still live too!) and managed to drive it away.

It's got a tracker which recorded it parked up for an hour in a street near the M25, then it moved and was parked in another street near Dover for two hours... you can see where this is going can't you!

Police think they'd parked up twice and left it alone to see if anyone was tracking it and came to investigate.

Once they'd made sure nobody was coming for it, it went onto the ferry and was driven to Poland! Once there the site it was parked up in got raided by Polish police. The generator was recovered safe and sound but they found lots of other stolen plant machinery, trucks, vans etc etc in various stages of being stripped for spares or having identities changed. Apparently it was quite a big set up they were running.

Really does remind me that I need to look at getting some security and trackers fitted to my motors...

Probably not a good idea to admit how remiss you are on a public forum.

Well, I do have security devices of a sort in place - just would like a more elegant solution really for the long term, and a tracker would just aid the peace of mind I think, and possibly reduce insurance premiums?

Plus the Lada (which is probably ironically the most likely to be targeted these days!) is generally wedged in the driveway behind a less than 4 month old VW company car as well.

CCTV on our property already mind you covering the driveway from several angles, and our driveway is also covered by our next door neighbour's across the road (we both discussed the overlapping coverage when we both installed our respective systems).

The German Shepherd can't hurt either I reckon...

Did the police deliberately let the truck go in order to track where it was going or did they get lucky?

OBJECTION..... We only want caravans thanks. LHD Transits are not needed in this Country.

Probably the latter to catch the main honcho(s)......

It could already be among the shedloads of 'em trolling around here on the continent sadly... If it's already had plate change we won't be much help but I've notified the Belgian and NL forums I'm on. I'd be gutted with some of the absolute crap I drive/use if they go - never mind after spunking a load of cash on something like this.

Best of luck.......

Yes.

The tracker went off as soon as it was moved. The thieves left it parked up for a while twice to make sure nobody came for it. Once they were sure nobody did they just went for it!

There was even a fuel card in the cab. They didn't use it though as that's another way it could be traced. Instead they payed for the diesel!

Apparently they got caught red handed by the Polish police though when they raided the address. All sorts in there by the sound of it.
