My wife is in Liverpool studying at the minute. Her trusty Micra failed its MOT today.

I had asked for garage recommendations on here but on a mate's recommendation she went to Kwik Fit near Alder Hey hospital. They initially refused to test the car insisting Northern Ireland wasnt part of the UK and the car would need re-registered, and were very rude throughout.

The car has a nasty exhaust rattle now that didn't exist before, and they have even listed it as an advisory! Anyway it failed, probably fairly, on the following:

Reason(s) for failure
  • Offside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.2.6)
  • Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.2.6)
  • Nearside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.2.6)
  • Offside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
  • Offside Front Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)
  • Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)
  • Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.3)
Advisory notice item(s)
  • Nearside Front Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
  • exhaust is corroded and is rattling

So I'm guessing its not worth fixing.

Does anyone have anything local that is crazy cheap, I mean stupid cheap, that has test till closer to Christmas??

Will offer pogweasel pink rusty Micra in PX lol

Shame but yeah that's not really worth repairing, my mate welded one up years ago and it took weeks, more and more rot as he kept looking.

I like to do the old gumtree trick of up to say £200 and keyword MOT, some great buys out there.

She could have had my seat Leon TDI last week for £300 before I spent a few quid on an engine and box for it (it only needs a gearbox as I've lost 5 th but the deal for the two was to good to turn down).

These are actually a really good buy as well, don't rot anything like the equivalent golf, fly along and cost pennies to run, however the petrol ones really are scrap value, something like a 1.4/1.6 one of those won't give her much grief, £300 sovs should get an mot'ed one.

Kwik-Fit-Up trying to have people over? Surely some mistake.

How cheap do you want something, I'll ask about for you.

Would need to be properly peanuts tbh. So it might be public transport till Christmas and then shes home anyway

Kwikfit  :signs053:

There is a lad round the back of Village Taxis who welds things up cheaply if you think the Micra is worth persevering with.

I have nothing going at the minute but will keep an eye out, stupid cheap needs defining though. If you'd have put a shout out for the MOT  I'd have steered you in the right direction. I'm surprised the whole thing has rusted that badly since it's last MOT or has it been advised before?

Nothing from last MOT but NI mot dont tend to do advisories much.

I had put a shout out and got suggestions but her local mate knew better

First step I guess is cost the work then go from there.

Ill find out, is that a good or bad thing?

Tbh im not surprised on the rust, the annoyance was the attitude and the exhaust was fine before they started poking. And if I put reasonable head on if the exhaust is on the way out they maybe couldnt help making it worse.

Comments like "aye, Northern Ireland IS part of the UK.....FOR NOW" arent helpful

My nephew's micra failed on similar items the other month.  We were lucky in that his cousin, (my daughter) saw a cheap low mileage 2 owner polo on a Y plate being sold by one of her female friends (on arsebook). A couple of days later and £650 lighter he is in possession of the only  none abused polo with full service history and a stack of receipts.

If any one wants the micra it's close to being free.  Mike R will forward on all interested parties to his son.

If it was the chap I'm thinking of, and judging by those comments it could well be, then the bits he's failed it on will be failures. He's not stupid enough to fail cars on things which aren't actual fails. He'd lose his licence doing that.

He can be a tad chatty, and he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the box.

I've fixed his cars for him in the past.

It was probably a fair cop on the rust tbf.....

Twas just the aggro she got from whoever was manning reception when she arrived was the bit that pissed me off. No need.

Fecking Scallies. It was better when there was massive unemployment in Liverpool. At least then you were served by someone grateful to have a job, and determined to keep it.

In his defence, he would be mortified if he knew someone had taken offence.

KWICK-FIT= quick bucks for them from gulible young or the none mechanicle minded.

Took a montego to their depot in Bootle many moons ago for one of their so called "FREE BRAKE CHECKS"

They dismantalled the 4 brakes then told me "ALL where knackered and dangerous" ??...I'd drove the car to them,no problem,

Basically had to agree to a till open job just to get my car outta the place.

Needless to say I would never recommend K/F to anyone.
