HMS Never to be Finished - Posh content

It was a bit too close for comfort this afternoon.

I had told my financial consultant that I was buying a car, that it was a 914 but she didn’t realise it was a race car with just one seat, a harness and not really road worthy... that was an interesting conversation!

Think I better find the single and sad thread! :D

Not much to report due to business travel.

Been to a prefecture of Tokyo and managed to pick this up in a local electronics store:post-20944-0-11304900-1526738141_thumb.jpg

Great quality for such a small and inexpensive toy car. ($5)

I also saw this gas station with crazy high fuel pumps that made me smile:

While I was there, I also saw my first Honda s660 in the flesh. Great looking little car. Didn't manage to get the camera out in time, but they had some pics up at the local Honda dealer. post-20944-0-71058700-1526738375_thumb.jpg

They laughed when I asked if they had one I could look at.

In other news, my wife managed to catch a photo of someone enjoying the recently tidied up garage while I was away.post-20944-0-32377700-1526738469_thumb.jpg

On my skateboard too!

Going through the post, these turned up while I was away.post-20944-0-27829700-1526743560_thumb.jpegpost-20944-0-72533200-1526743583_thumb.jpegpost-20944-0-38062100-1526743602_thumb.jpeg

Two different companies were having a sale - one for the lenses, the other for the light boxes.

Result - $350 for a pair of complete light boxes including p&p.

Okay, they wouldn’t pass concors type review, but perfect for me, at a price less than I could buy a single used light box for. :D

Wow ! 911, 914 and is that an Atom in your garage ? You're clearly living the dream !

Thank you. It would be if they were all running...

Still much Blood, Sweat and Beers to be shed!

Thank you :D

With the race engine, it sounds like the end of the world is coming!!!!

Finally got the ignition lock back in.

I can confirm that swearing at wires does NOT get them out of the way, but does make in inept operator feel slightly better! :D

I also tried my hand at plating parts for the first time. I used the Eastman kit and the results were pretty good...

Except I was hoping for a ‘Golden’ finish from the tin / zinc, rather than the silvery finish I ended up with. Probably need another anode.

I was hoping to get a lot more done, but sitting kind of upside down, pulling errant wires from an old stereo out from under the dash, in a garage in 100F heat, got old really quickly.

Got some new racking - Mrs Roobarb wanted her inside parting spot back.

Got the front seal for the hood taped in place (needs to come off again for spraying) and the hood shimmed and fitted. Great panel from Getty! The seal needs a bit of a squashing though.

Cut off the front bumper support to allow the long hood fenders to fit and finally managed an initial fitting of the fender. First time fitted - will need to come on and off a few times by the look of it!

Could drive a truck through the gaps at the moment and needs pushing a good 1/3” back.

This looks great, it’s really coming on! Jealous of your garage set up too!

Thank you.

Not too envious of the credit card bill at the moment, but should have it sorted by next month!

Wish I could say the same about the car. :)

Well, what you obviously need now is a second rack so your Mrs can still park yet the potential for projects sees a 50% increase.

Ha ha ha. Don’t tempt me :)

I really would like a 924 one day - but until I can get the engine out of the 914 into the 911 and move it on, that just isn’t going to happen. I’d also have to hit the big time on scratch cards or something.

The 911 is a monster project that both seems to nickel and dime you at every turn as well as take a ton of time and skill (which are both thin on the ground with me!)

I suppose there is some comfort in knowing that whatever you do to it you should be able to sell it on and it not depreciate.

That’s true - as long as the Porsche bubble doesn’t burst, like the early hot rod market did, over here in the US.

Even so, it’s a car I’ve wanted to own, ever since my first VW beetle 30+ years ago!

Well after many many more hours than I expected, the front end is kind of getting together.

Still a little way to go, but most of that will be screwing the thing in place and cleaning up.

But as with any minor victories, there was a small casualty...

post-20944-0-15727200-1536006588_thumb.jpeg

The hood jumped off my head as I was balancing it while trying to reset it. It dropped into the hole and nearly hit the floor where the gas tank was missing from.

Damn. Oh well, another opportunity to learn how to do something new again.

I bought a 914 because flat 6.

That's worth a PhD in man maths.

Liked for panel fitment, not panel damage.  At your earliest convenience, please install a "My other car is a Porsche" sticker on both of these vehicles.

I wonder if you can still buy those... :D

Somewhere, in an Arkwright like car parts store, there are a couple with my name on :)

Aaaaarrrggghh.

Beautiful day out, so I roll the car out of the garage and keep working on the wings. Another 4hrs today. What a waste of time. When I walked away (in disgust) they still looked no better than when I started!

The problem is the interface at the sill near the door bottom seems to be out. And to add insult to injury, the other side has moved a little, taking that from almost complete, to another little job.

Starting to think I should either lower my standards, or get a pro to help out.

On the up sized, I managed to pick up a new windscreen for a little over $100 and some well worn seats, so that I have something to sit on while I’m doing it up (another $100 deal).

Think I just need to work on something else next time and see if I can have a think about these damn wings!

Nice - thank you. I wonder if I can get one that says my other car is a porch. :D

Weirdly enough, they don’t call Porsche ‘Porkers’ over here, so all of my pig jokes seem to fall foul.

Shame. I did think of having the number plate ‘Porker’ over here, but now knowing that, I think it would get taken the wrong way...

I knew a blonde who got asked to paint the porch once, when she finished she mentioned it wasn't a porch but a Ferrari....
