The usual preparation* is hence in progress.

Spikey, Mr Conelrad and I will be in .fr this weekend.

The reason I'm posting that this early is that we'll have some space available for AS logistics.

The route is Manchester - Lille - Manchester.

Are you going to try and buy a floor for the R16? Or maybe an R16 that has entirely rusted away, save for the floorpan and front wings?

For 4k I'd have a V6 with 'Dinin' Decals all over it.

Nah, it's this:

I will also be in France this weekend albeit briefly on my way to Holland, I will wave if I see you. Are you going by ferry or the Chunnel?

If you weren't on a ferry, you weren't abroad.

You are not telling us that you succeeded to buy something off TheGoodCorner? Fake news, so sad!

I had to call on assistance from a French car forum I'm a member of.

Hence it wasn't me who succeeded.

Besides, since when do I succeed?

Besides, since when do I succeed?

As long as you have a certified cheque in french gold crowns to pay with, you will be fine.

I've been desperately scanning the Lille area for a mk1/2 transit to make your journey back easier* but to no avail I'm afraid

Ah, lovely Lille, town of my French family.

My grandmother used to tell a great true* story about flicking v signs at Hitler while under occupation. But they did genuinely have a German soldier billeted with them. And supposedly my great grandfather was in the resistance, but I've yet to find decisive evidence.

Can't find any Favorit parts in Lille, so as you were :-)

Bonne chance, les gars.

Should any Mofa pop up for grabbage, it'll serve as a castros_bro_breakdown_cover in the Beastestate's cavernous hold.

Right.

We prepared the car.

We didn't bother to fix the leaking thermostat housing.

During our 7 hour trip to Dover because the English are unable to just drive the fuck ON,

we saw this:

The presence of this calmed our fears as we prepared to face the wastelands of that Continent.

We figured that it was heavy duty enough to even recover the Beastestate.

There's nothing in that pic that doesn't qualify for a Govt health warning:

Fags: check

Wine: check

Laptop/internet: check

Beige forum: check

Budget French hotel room: check

Great to see the Beast Estate getting used as it should be. Should make light work of that sort of continental trip.

You've probably done more mileage in it since you've had it than I did since 2008 up to early this year! I hope the old queen behaves herself for you...

This is the archishite we stayed in.

It's so freshly renovated, that it looks a bit like a 3D rendering in the photos.

Everything was closed. Everything.

For the past 35 odd years, I have been unable to verify the hype about French Cuisine.

I have never eaten any of it, because it has never been made available to me.

Regardless which day of the week, or whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinnertime, everything is closed.

We went to a huge shopping mall near Calais on the way back to do some shopping.

Amazingly a few shops inside that mall were actually open. So some shopping could be done, but for example

cigarettes were not obtainable.

They also had a food court, but only a selected few of the restaurants were open, amongst other two Irish Pubs,

and several Pizza and Burger joints. Only one Brasserie was open and when we went in, we were immediately

told by a panic stricken waiter that 'zee keetshain iz clozede'.

So I was relegated to eat what I always have been relegated to to eat in France - a burger.

Shopping was not entirely unsuccessful, though.

And here is the actual raison de la trip:

The Granada was perfect for the trip. Comfortable, relaxing and still keeping pace.

A dustbin, a massive ship, a boat. Wonder whose tombstone that is.

Nothing like having your car bathed in a salt water mist for an hour.
