OMG the form arrived today.

The guide to fill it in is thicker than the form, something I wouldn't have deemed possible.

We had this before.

It ended badly.

It showed promise though.

Junkman would it be easier if I just posted you the number plates off mine? We could share the mot cost although I'm not sure which is more likely to pass..

Joking aside, this is why a V5 from a long dead car is worth a few quid.

How things have changed since I left the UK.... Registering the Reliant in France was totally painless and almost paperless despite common perception about Frog bureaucracy.

Only problem was getting to the Prefecture for when they see fit to be open.

"open" and "France" are probably two words you don't recognise though  :)

Baise moi.

What's the damage?

Actually not so bad. £250 for all the welding and fitting the ARB bushes. Plus the MOT fee, which had to be paid anyway.

Ancient French car with good owner - easy mot pass

Modern French car with stupid owner - terrible mot experience and 9 pages of shit on the subject...

The handbrake in this is also a problem - but only because you have to unbuckle your seatbelt to reach the lever!

I am not sure if they were built like that to dissuade hand brake use or seat belt use. Ds were the same until later models.

They eventually relocated the hand brake and ignition lock to places where you can actually reach them.

After they started fitting them with inertia reel belts, that is. Frenchies, you know.

Another in the Junkman Climate Improvement Arsenal™ hitting the road :)

Road hittage is sadly weeks away. I needed the MoT cert so I can finally send off the reg request.

Sadly I'm currently on holidays, so this won't happen until Monday.

Then it's again in the hands of Britain's bureaucratic bureaucrats hence I expect the worst.

The interior is back in, more or less. Needs new bolts for the seat runners before it can be driven - there's only two usable ones left. I'm so used to seeing it empty, it looks crowded in there with seats!

It's not just the seat runner bolts which need replacing. Look what I found when I (eventually) got one of the rear armrests off:

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to put that back. I don't know how they avoided piercing the door skin bolting it on!

That's why the windows often stick when you try to wind them down.

Also, you are putting the wrong interior in.

I'm not installing an interior. I am clearing a garage.

I demand a Right to Reply! Here's my reply - he's right!

Except on the overpriced bit. I don't know if JM said how much he paid for it, but the dealer fell short of even his "nothing" price.

You will never believe this - I actually managed to send off the paperwork to the DVLA today.

So if everything goes right, in a country, where you have to apply for a licence to operate a telly,

I might have this thing registered in four to six - uh - years. If everything goes right that is.

The powers there are are going to decide upon it now.

I hope they will find an old, beaten up Renner with 54 OMGBHP worthy of being held back on

her Majesty's low and highways by British motorists.

If everything goes right, I'm looking a bit forward to which reg they are going to assign.

In the meantime, I'm saving up for a set of new tyres, since the ones on the car will have

flat patches by then.

What really counts, however, is that I have an R16 and you clowns don't.

Right. Where were we?

Oh yes, R16. Well, it's back at the Junktowers now. It is fascinating how you can watch it rust away right in front of your eyes.

In grand GGG tradition, the rear seat was swapped in pouring rain.

But before the work on the interior can continue, the sound deadening I just ordered needs to arrive.

Do you by any chance have a switch for the boot light?

No but I know a man who probably has... He is quite unwell at the moment but I'll send him a message if you still want it

Since the old passenger seat is in very good condition, I have taken it.

I'm going to turn it into a chair using the skills I believe I have.

For the not initiated, R16 seats are upholstered with genuine horse tail hair.

How they maintained that supply chain while chucking out the cars by the million load I better leave to your imagination.

Horse Gulasch is formidable, though.

Guess how I know.
