What MOT fails/advisories put you right off

Child seat fitted. Unable to test belt.

Expect sticky carpets, broken trim, loose change posted in the stereo, faint smell of vomit on a warm day, engine short run coked up, 100 supermarket car park dents and footprints on the seats.

Or is that just my car?

I nearly did that so the guy couldn't fail the Zafiras missing buckle cover... Until people here said it would be fine so I chanced it and it was! I remember taking the meriva one year and remembering as the guy was doing the lights, so whipped it out and took it into the waiting room... He chuckled

Advisories are bullshit.

I tend to use the same garages for the same vehicles and I often challenge why they have felt the need to make a comment one year and completely ignore the same component the next.   It's just our opinion, they say.   OK, then, why does your opinion change over a 12 month period?   The car hasn't.

They are just like the weather forecast.  If you really want to know whether its going to rain you have to wait and see.....

Not saying that at all.   I have the utmost respect for the ones I use otherwise I wouldn't go anywhere near them.   It's just another form-filling exercise designed to confuse the public just like the pointless feedback on hotel booking sites and restaurant reviews.

A thing that puts me off or at least makes me wary, is an advisory that's repeated for several years. Is this just the tester(s) being an arse or is it the owner being slack and not doing anything about it?

Not necess a deal-breaker but it's something that often puts my guard up generally.

If anyone could bother to look up ToMM© you would see fail for drop links (x4).

Ha! Talk about 'massaging stats' they took the fuckkers OFF & fitted a full set of dampers/arb/d.links BEFORE testing it :(

WTF anyhow... Does blott the copybook, for those who follow these things ;)

I'd sooner know if there's an advisory for a beginnings of some corrosion or whatever, can treat it then and it's not a problem. The Focus had an advisory for fuel line and brake line corrosion, sounded worse than what it is, wire brushed it all back and Waxoyled it straight away and it's never been a problem since.

The TDCI I had had an advisory for 'snow tyres'. Must have been on a trip to the alps or something before I had it.
