Tyre Disposal?

Recommended Posts

Guys Ive got tyres in the front garden I need rid of, local tip dont take tyres and I cant really think of anywhere else to get shot of them without paying.

1 is a bare tyre which is like a racing slick, one has a ripped sidewall from a blow out and still on an alloy rim with a big chunk missing, other has air in it and is worn smooth on inside edge but loads of tread elsewhere and is fitted to another buckled and dented alloy rim. So any ideas where I could get rid of this tat, absolutely no use to anyone.

Take 'em up to your local tyre place with a four pack of beer and see if someone will incorporate them into their tyre pile.

You often will struggle to get rid of them for free, there's very little value in knackered rubber and they're an arse to recycle so tyre places have to pay, which is why they often bung a couple of quid "disposal fee" on when you have a new tyre.

See I thought that was a con, because we had a lorry with a big mesh box on the back come in to my work when I worked at a main dealers and took all the scrap tyres away, I thought the dealer/garage would be getting paid for all their scrap tyres by the tyre recycling mob who collected them, and they were making money on the disposal from the customer too, so making money on the tyre disposal twice.

I thought perhaps with 2 of the tyres having alloys on them they mightve been taken off my hands for free to be put in with a pile of scrap metal to make up the weight if that makes sense.

Mate of mine used to chuck his scrap rubber into Leith docks.

Hi, How long ago did you try at the council tip? Local councils started to charge to leave certain items Tyres, building waste etc, but fly tipping increased (well I never, who'd have thought). Recently central government told them they couldn't, so try again. Failing that either remove the tyres from the alloys, weigh them in and that will pay for tyre disposal, Or go to local tyre place and speak to one of the fitters and suggest they can have the alloys if they take the tyres.

Unfortunately both alloys are fucked and been replaced otherwise I wouldn't have 2 of them lying around making the place look untidy lol

My local tip will take a maximum of 2 tyres or wheels with tyres per visit.

If they're on alloys, would your local scrappie not take them, OK they're not going to pay for them but the fact they're getting the ali, they shouldn't charge you.

My daughter's school take them for outdoor areas, might be worth a try in your area?

It'd be worth asking a local scrap man as there's probably five pounds each in the alloys, tyre companies had to pay to dispose of tyres themselves (and I'm guessing they still do) hence charging people.

Laziness/fly tipping. Sod the environment, the mess and someone else having to clean up. Properly pisses me off that.

My local tip takes them. 4 at a time max. But the containers right round the back. You could empty a vans worth in and no one would notice. There all too busy sifting thru the fit house wife's general waste for knickers and dildos at the big skip to give a fuck

Load em into your car and go find your local tyre house on a quiet industrial estate and launch them over the fence.

I worked at ATS Ellesmere Port back in the day which was on rossmore industrial estate and we had it happen quite regularly, almost daily.

Find a tyre depot that keeps the old tyres outside in one of those palisade fence compounds. Chuck then over the fence.

Alternatively approach a fairly well known part worn tyre retailer in Rotherham, they'll not be too fussed about how bald, old etc they are, so long as they are still round and black they'll have them to sell on.

Thats what we were paying last time we checked.

Burn them, but stand well back. Steel belted tyres explode once hot enough, even when not on a rim.

Oh my actual days, when did you work there?
