What was the bike they used to call the Garden Gate?

Wasnt there a Triumph called that due to the style of the tank badges? Not sure myself.

Edit: Naw it was a Norton.

Posted

I think the predecessor to the Norton featherbed was called the garden gate, presumably a derogatory epithet about its handling and possibly applied retrospectively after the McCandless magic was applied to some bent bits of tube. There was a Triumph tank badge that looked a bit 'gatey', but most folk appear to call it the harmonica, on the post-bathtub TR6 or Thunderbird I think.

Wasn't it the Kawasaki H1? Because it used to hinge in the middle?

Edit: Nice bike and well worth 750 quid

So much want for hercules! Also atala now I've just Google it!

I'd have thought a single cylinder coil would be easy enough to make work on any vehicle if you know the wiring? Tempting if I had the spare cash though.

Posted

it'll most likely be a generic xxx no of pins CDI unit that it needs.

EDIT:  just seen the pics - surely that is simply a coil that he's needing?  there wont be an ECU on that!

Posted

My rudimentary knowledge of wiring is that one LT contact would go to the pick up from the flywheel/stator and obv the HT goes to the plug - but does the other LT contact run to ground via the kill switch so that when grounded it stalls the bike?

Posted

Yo Mon.

Boollix CDI there is no pick-up, just one coil, one wire,  for "power" and "timing",  as the voltage rises it reaches a predertimed point (voltage) where the CDI fires. A shitty shitty design which is obsolete.

Buy my  moped as it is the only one with a working spark.

Posted

That is a plugin one and not the one for this Califfone Rizzo engine,  It should have one single wire with a spade connection and one earth tag  and one HT.   I'll get a pic of mine.

The CDI sometimes appear here https://picclick.it/?q=califfone   but  they are obsolete and electrically fragile.   Here is a some Tomos info which had the same CDI made by IDM as the Callifone  - note on the drawing the IDM CDI is labelled "defect"     http://www.myronsmopeds.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/Tomos-Wiring-1993-97-Sprint-100dpi.jpg

Veliko Turnovo,in sunniest Bulgaria..

Where the countryside is totally perfect for trail biking hence my looking for a Dr Big to go off exploring

This is the view from the barn gate

Everywhere is open to ride on as long as you don't take the piss with fields of crops and livestock
