New car needed - Advice please

Not sure that they are 'shit' as such... Although jiggly and a tad wayward. My recent Honda Accord tourers were a bit skittish.

Japanese suspensions are shit.

I wouldn't recommend any Japanesish tosh to someone with back problems.

Air suspension on RX300s take away most of the worries of a long term back pain sufferer and the Accord Coupes are made, designed and set up for the Yanks so they waft along quite agreeably. I've always found seats in French cars lacked support and shape and resulted in back pain quite quickly, similar issues with Jags and Rover/MG 75/ZT seats.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, plenty to think about   :-) .

The S80 does sound tempting, the OH did want a hatch/estate for all of her shopping needs but comfort might have to come first. The most comfortable car I've had to date was an old XJ40 but I'm not sure I'd like to try and run one as a daily driver in my current state.

As mentioned previously, would recommend the Rover/MG, 75/ZT estate/tourer highly.

Really comfy seats, and come in petrol auto/diesel auto options.

There are loads of guides regarding what to look for, but you should be able to find a really good one well within your budget. Just need to decide if you want the economy of diesel or power of petrol ( though the diesels can easily be remapped to 160 by a few guys on the Rover forum)

Shit, my 9000 turbo has a couple of snapped studs, is it really as big an issue as you say?

Mixed bag; my Toyota effectively has no suspension. I've rented Accords which have been quite waftable, the older Lexi have comfort built in.

I suppose it depends on how bad the leak is, mine are both at one end so in standing traffic it tries to gas me. It's also sounding rather too sporty*

The studs are hard enough that they seem to be very awkward to drill out, the only hope is you can weld something on, but mine are both snapped inside the head. There's some weird chat on the uksaab forum about dissolving them out with an alum solution :-o

Ooh fuck. I have zero desire to pay someone to fix this.

The S80's boot is freaking gigantic. I'd score it well on practicality too.

Pop the Saab up on here, you never know....

Probably go around Knockhill at a decent pace if my last 9000 turbo was anything similar

One of the softest riding cars I ever used was a 1997 416 auto saloon.

I still haven't given up totally on finding somewhere to fix it. If I had another car that will at least buy me some time to decide.

I'm banned by the OH from buying any more Rovers after a disastrous MG ZS purchase some years ago.

416 automatics were always 100% Honda.

I'm a funny shape and struggle to be comfy in much, and despite the japanese bashing above I've not found much comfier than these tbh.

No it doesn't cosset away from potholes quite as much as some others, but I drive swindon to inverness (and back) in it about twice a year. And it's fine for that. I rate it comfier than a 9-5 or v70.

And it is staggeringly reliable.
