That looks an idea, though I'm about to set off... if someone could keep me updated, that'd be grand. A PM might be an idea if we're changing venue.

Right - ok let's change to Mickey's. I'll PM everyone who has shown an interest.

If heading from M2 / Sittingbourne direction you'll need to travel down past the diner to the bottom of A249 and spin around at the Maidstone / M20 roundabout and head back up the opposite carriageway. it's only about 5 minutes of your way

If I can skip out of work early, I might be able to find 15 minutes to stick my head in and say Hello.

Yep, Alex has the right advice, I'm not sure if you are still allowed to u-turn on detling hill, but even if you are it's not advised!

Is that the place we had a meet at in around 2013?

I'll be there, in the A40.

No it's a different venue AD,this is on the A249 at the top of Detling Hill just after the Showground entrance,it used to be a Little Chef.

The fatigue from my two day collection caper has kicked in today, but I'll be there. A waft down the M20 in the Safrane is easy enough.

Nice to meet everyone, sorry for the 15 minute in and out. Would have been good to get photos in etc.

BTW, I assume you found my money for the tea I left behind?? If not I owe you all a quid.

These lovely machines have never been on my radar, maybe because i have only seen pristine examples lined up on a rally field and that just don't do anything for me.

But Angrydickies example is so much more than an old car if it was a building it would have a preservation order slapped on it.

Its condition is something that could never be recreated with a cheque book,a fine car and a better custodian would be hard to find.

My head has been turned.

Those photos truly sum up this place with the range of automobiles.  So much nicer than seeing 15 examples of the same car

Agree with Alex, the Somerset is well up there in the 'treasures of autoshite' list along with the Rancho's, Sierra bASe's etc.  Dicky's enthusiam for driving it everywhere is infectious as well.  I can't imagine there are many 64 year old roadgoing vehicles anywhere in the world that have covered the miles that this one has in the past few years.

This is a car built before Sputnik 1 was launched and was already very old by the time JFK was shot!

Privileged to have had a ride in that Somerset, an experience that could only have been bettered if I had possessed a homburg and a clipped Home Counties accent
