Generations of shite!

For the last decade or so I've run and driven past the collection of choice (?) chod you see in the photo.

Shite%20through%20the%20ages_1.jpg

I have absolutely no idea of the circumstances of the inhabitants of the house, but given from the state of utter disrepair, it's probably an older person in reduced circumstances. The houses in this street all go for upwards of £1m, so I have to assume that at some point they've had some dosh.

Nevertheless, the first car to arrive on the scene was the Lada, which was driven until one day it just stopped moving, and has remained in exactly that position on the RHS ever since, about a decade back. The weedfield that's grown up around it has actually popped through the tarmac, which shows what some determined vegetation can do given a decade undisturbed. Presumably Mrs Miggins decided to upgrade to a groovin' 309, but then that too was deemed a bit too exciting and wahey! and took up its position as Middle Moulderer, complete with its surroundings of finest moss. I reckon it's not moved for five years or so, which ties with the fact that the latest crapwagon dates from 2011. The Agila does actually shift position (a little bit) from time to time, btw, so I know the owner is still with us.

There are loads of houses with crap old cars on the driveway, but this one is really odd, firstly because of the location (you can't move without tripping over an A5 or X6 in this street), and the fact that the owner couldn't be bothered to dispose of not one but two bits of Autoshite gold, albeit perhaps of the iron pyrites variety. God alone knows what's in the garage - presumably the long-dead corpses of previous bits of mouldy old tat. Probably find a long-dead Lanchester in the back garden.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in either the Lada or the Peugeot (I really can't see why, but this site is odd), let me know. Other than the fact that they're now nicely mildewed (to the point that the birds refuse to shit on 'em nowadays), they look to be in reasonably good condition, at least as much as any 1991 Peugeot or Lada can be.

Wonder what will be to the left of the Agila in a couple of years time?

Edited to add; thankfully you said it was an Agila, I really wouldn't have known

Reminds me of a scene I encountered once (about twenty years ago now I think about it - shit!).  Every permutation of Escort from mkI onwards (and possibly some older equivalents) decaying slowly on a drive with only the newest in use.  A bit of Google Earth stalking suggests they might still be there; must think on and go check if I'm ever back in the area (Staffs).

Bit sad really - from the look of the cars, they were hardly chosen by an enthusiast and you'd have thought they'd just have traded them when they picked up the new car. I really can't see the point of littering your driveway unless you have some intention of getting the old heap back on the road.

I reckon there are probably no more than 100 Lada Rivas left in the UK - the rest will all have rotted or been weighed in - so it's got rarity value and will be worth at least, er, £23 to a dimwitted muppet starry-eyed collector.

The Riva is worth a few hundred quid and the 309 a couple of hundred.

I'd knock on the door. They might let you cart it away for nowt.

Then again these sorts that live like that are likely to tell you to fuck off if you knock at the door.

There's a bungalow near me with a Cavalier and a Mk1 Mondeo on the drive, they haven't moved for years.

The ladies (Mother and daughter) who live on the corner are weird with cars, there is a lovely Mazda $$$ estate thing parked round the back where it is slowly dissolving (though still looks good at the mo')  and it has been there for at least 2 years... it was abandoned as the daughter didn't like driving it. She has 2010 reg 307/8 now.

Outside is the most sheddy 307 I have ever seen and it never moves. It is the Mothers but she doesn't like driving so about once a year it goes off for an MOT (probably bent - taxi driver husband) and then returns and sits there for another 12 months.

Mad, utterly mad. Oh and the daughter parkes fully on the pavement regardless of if there is parking available. It's 'her' spot now it seems.

You clearly know South Hertfordshire well! That's precisely what I'd expect.

Or be the sort of loon that demands two grand because rare classic car.

There's a farm near us where the old dude living there has amassed a collection of dead LR Discoveries. When one expires, he simply buys another shagged-out example of the breed and continues on his way. There were three or four there last time I looked.

There's also a Sprite Musketeer touring caravan with a fairly substantial tree growing through it.

I want to know what is parked in the garage.

Probably filled with every cardboard box they have ever had, plus some rotten deck chairs, old newspapers and brown glass jars. Oh and a tumble-dryer that's about to burst into flames.

I love scenes like this, a rarity nowadays. Back in the early 1980s I seem to recall lots of decaying out-of-use cars on driveways, sometimes more than one. It was a bit like the owners motoring timeline, still parked in the drive. A red Citroen DS and blue Simca 1100 spring to my mind first and foremost when I recall this.

Funny thing is the rest of the street is so incredibly upmarket - this is one of the houses built when the land was much cheaper and plot sizes larger. Typically they get pulled down and two or three townhouses are built on the same plot. This one's just waiting for the current occupant to, er, move on.

Seems such a shame that this would be lost to a couple of sterile egg boxes with white 1 series BMWs in the drive.

Surely if they're Fords by now the owners will have retired to the Bahamas on the proceeds of the sales of V5s and Vin plates on eBay
