Purplebarge Rofflewagon

Finally managed to drag myself to the Barn in Essex to gaze in wonderment at the latest addition to the fleet.

Yes, the purple Volvo S40 saloon in 1.6 pez flavour.

A closer look around the car was achieved and the following words give a more detailed description:

It's purple. Some of it is a dull purple.

The bodywork is actually pretty darn decent, no horrible denty stuff observed so far. It's a bloody shame the clear coat is is a bit fubar in places. No rust up top that I could spy.

Wheels are steelies and have decent enough rubber on 'em. Wheel trims missing in action apart from one.

The door mirrors are heated - niiiiice. They work properly with regards to adjusting.

The wipers work well enough to fling my phone a reasonable distance. Note to self, wiper arms are not a good resting place for a mobile phone.

Lights...... light up in the correct manner.  Glass is present and correct, the screen has no chips.

The radio works and belts out a decent sound tbh.

Mileage is 90,300 something miles and I believe I am the 3rd owner. There are brochures and stuff in the glove box.

The dash bits work, no warning lights of misery are illuminated. I found the gear lever badge between the drivers seat and the transmission tunnel. I need my flexible grabby thing to get it.

Exhaust seems solid with no extra blowing noises apparent. Clutch bite is good, gear lever is a bit wibbly wobbly but kits are available for not much at all.

It's quite clearly purple.

The hmm bits.

The interior is clean, however, the door cards are generally good but the fabric bits in the middle are no longer attached in several places and the one on the drivers side has come away properly and there are bits of crumbled foam all over the door.

The headlining is like a bedouin tent - very Volvo, Saab and Jag in its looseness. That does rankle a wee bit but it is just a me thing and has no reflection on the car or anything. Floppy headlining is a thing that bugs, no matter what the car.

Carpet is lovely and clean.

So, the plan.

Alloys with good matching tyres and black leather interior are being obtained from a VOC chap in Ilford for very little pounds.

I may have a go at re-adhering the headlining when the weather claws itself above very cold indeed.

There is an oil leak somewhere, not too bothered but will check. Steering squeaks a little bit. Will also check.

Missing clear coat..... maybe CBA. We shall see.

So, considering the car cost me a lotto sum of 18 quid I have feck all to complain about. It's a comfy, clean and a well put together cruiser that would soak up the miles rather well I think. So, a little cosmetic fumbling and mechanical prodding and it should be a good'un.

Did I hear someone say 'where are the photos'?

Well keep watching 'cos they will be here shortly.

The car is most deffo purple.

£40 for leather....... gotta do it :)

That's more maroon than purple.  Still, looks like it should polish up reasonably well.

Nicely done sir. It was a 1.6? I thought it was a 1.8.

Bonus points for speccing up the base engine.

Hmm, thought it wasa 1.6 but now confused.

I only did the bit on the bonnet and the wing, I spent some time on the interior checking bits and so on.

More than welcome mate. I think I will be there again in 2 weeks time, am working next weekend.

Laugh!

It's a Mitsu engine & only gave a few mpgs more, dunno why they did it really

Must remember to replace the bottom hose clip before it breaks and pukes all the coolant out.

Yes, I guess it had to be the 1.8 lol. I'll just bung some Redex in there every now and again ;)

I seem to recall they only came back from giffers, so driving them properly is probably a cure too.

Edit: It's only the 1.8i with the GDI engine, the normal 1.8 is fine (& injection, but no badge)

Luckily my driving style could never be described as giffer'esque :)

1731cc or 1783cc - Volvo engine. 1834cc - Mitsubishi engine. So you're all right.

Phew!

Ok, ok..... it's maroon already :)
