I'm surprised you didn't need a Reichsdeutsche apostille and a notarially certified translation of the Austrian doc.

Yesss, this car is pure fun to drive! Classic early turbo that kicks in with a push just when you need it. Plenty boost and OMG that nice screaming sound.

I love that turbo needle:

What a great car and thread loved reading it, I am in the process of restoring my 505 V6 which had been off the road for 16 years. I did all the mechanicals and had it on the road for 6 weeks or so to make sure it was all sound mechanically and now taken it back off the road again to start on the paint work side of things and treat a bit of rust on the A posts and around the sunroof. we never had the Turbo version in the UK only the N/A 2.2 GTI and the V6 GTI.

I'm guessing that plate isn't a coincidence!

M-TI505 was not available? :)

Unfortunately not.

Great! PRV under the hood is always a good thing!

I hope you wont need the front brake disks, the ones for the ABS brakes on the V6 are impossible to find.

Tell us more, show us some pics!

Time for a day out to give the 505 a good test run.
Where to go? Austria of course!

We have to make up on the promise to the previous owner to let him have a final round in his car once its up an running again.

About 20 minutes into the way to to our destination near Salzburg there is a short stretch of Autobahn.

Almost no traffic here.

post-5425-0-88346400-1488656956_thumb.jpg

Engine warmed up, no indication of anything going wrong with the car... time to gently move that accelerator a bit closer towards the floor panel.

post-5425-0-61443100-1488657153_thumb.jpg

All temperatures normal, no unusual background noises, no red lights, there is definetly way too much air under the pedal.

post-5425-0-83359300-1488657604_thumb.jpg

We are at only 4500 rpm... still plenty of room upwards and the turbo is eager to push the rpm needle further towards the red zone. Unfortunately the Autobahn ends here. We will have to wait for another opportunity to find out the limits of the car.

Onwards on the way to our destination we have fun chasing this a bit.

What is it, American? Jumped like crazy on the slightest bump in the road, total loss when cornering (this not us!).

We got quickly bored of that and turned off the main road into the forest

to a well known place.. not that we went here on purpose, it just "happened" to be on our way.

Finally after two hours of most enjoyable driving we meet up with the chap who cared so well for the car before it changed into our hands. He was really pleased to see his baby back on the road after sleeping 12 years in his garage. He made his final round and sent us on with a smile. That was really nice, everybody happy and he sent us on to Salzburg to a friend who, guess what, has a french beauty in his garage.

There were more beauties in the garage to appreciate. Essex Super 6

Was this the highlight of the day? Maybe... stay tuned for part two.

Your 505 really is a superb looking car - it looks really quite new in the photos.

One of my grandfathers was a huge fan of the straight eight. He loved the torque and the ease of driving that gave him.

If that Camaro weren't as mongtarded as it was, it wouldn't have jumped like crazy on the slightest bump in the road

and left you in the dust.

Great thread and lovely car. Nice that the previous owner got to see it fixed and back on the road too.

.. part 2

while having a drink and a chat, our new friends phone rings... hi there, good you call, i have some like-minded chaps here that will certainly enjoy a look at your cars. A few miles down the road and ten minutes later we find ourselves in another garage of dreams. The owner did not really like the idea of his cars being on the internet. We always ask before we take photos and respect that, a few glimpses were allowed.

after more chat and drinks we are finally on the way to our No1 photo shot location, the Rossfeld mountain road.

post-5425-0-13532900-1488706771_thumb.jpg

We consider this to be the qualifying examination for new arrivals to obtain a permanent place in our garage. Every car has to go there and not all of them covered themselves in glory. The Tagora SX and the Simca Chambord both shat their fuel pumps up there the same day and within 500 meters. The white 505 gave strong smoke signals already on the autobahn on the way there but finally made it. One of the 504 convertibles didnt even make it on the first attempt.

This time, we were flying up there setting a new record for the stretch from the toll both up to the summit.

Time for a coffee and then back home. We took the A8 hoping to blow the remaining fuel through the engine at a high rate, but the traffic did not play along.

V fine, but shouldn't you have had some skis on the roof and had a quick blat down some suitable berg?  You could also have worn period-suitable naff jackets and shades.

The quintessential skiing accessory at the time was a bright white headband that made you look like you broke your skull.

Yep, along with porno 'tache and shite rear-entry boots, although the boots should really be white.

Bit of a fail for absence of 230 cm Volkls, for group skiing in panzer formation making terrifying scraping noise and bombing past everyone else when on office outing from Dusseldorf.

Bonus points for the Monoskier. There are still a few people in France who do monoskiing. NB: France

The Austrians sold their snow to Russia, or China or maybe gave it to the Saudis in exchange for some fuel to run their Camaros...  none left for skiing.

You mean where they made 505s?

Well, they tried to get off the monoskis and buy a pair of proper ones, but all shops in France were closed

and nobody on Leboncoin replied to their emails.

The Austrians had their climate improved by Germans visiting with shonky old chod.

Just watching Streets of SanFrancisco last night (off the BTbox - 4am schedule)

Undercover had a 'tache which was just awesome*

He was ethnic, so hair delete would involve acid/blowlamp.

Excellent use of "apposite" there, Mr Savvy.

That's the only little glitch among all the nice and good stuff we ever sent you.

You can't always get it 100% right. Someting the Germans have yet to learn.
