Slightly out of Shite-range convertibles...

How about a petrol/manual convertible that otherwise fits the bill, and swap a diesel/auto in from another model in the range if the manufacturer doesn't offer one as standard? I know you *could* do it, just not sure if you have the time or inclination!

I actually have a guilty pleasure on the Megane CC - the shaking arse generation.

With the roof up, the boot is very respectable. Back seats are tight though.

I don't think I could get over the floppy nature of them though.

I would tolerate a petrol, but my left knee won't tolerate a clutch pedal! The end plan is to combine the cabrio of the 306 with the comfort and auto of the Jag. A new daily that ticks all the boxes.

I was just trying to avoid the inevitable A4!

Beetles are actually a really nice drive in cloth top...no scuttle shake or anything. Unlike Saabs, Audis and 3 series. Actually, it's a while since I had one in but CLKs are pretty decent too if I remember correctly.

Lady friend owns this yoke. Fabulous vehicle and drives just like a normal tin top. Zero scuttle shake etc. However they're outside your price range. Future shite potentially.

He said four seats, not four usable seats.

No, I've never been in a Stag.

I like the look of these, however I remember a friend of mine using his father's one and describing it as "like driving two cars at once"!

Scuttle shake! I'm not sure it can be alleviated on the Saab. The pre facelift C70 is a good choice too, they also suffer from the shakes but it can be improved, if I remember by uprating the rear anti roll bar.

Was it the old 9-3 or the newer 9-3? The first were terrible, the second are acceptable for scuttle shake. But tbh any type of car like this won't be great for it. If it's ok then it's had a tonne of metal added to stiffen it up, making it lardy.

Apart from the floppy top, your list of requirements seem to be the same as for a minicab.

AS logic thus dictates that you hack the roof off an Octavia with an angle grinder.

Job jobbed.

Verdict buy a totally unsuitable land yacht from the land of Septics and drop the running gear from a FX4 into it

1990s Stangs are in good supply over there, seems supply far outstrips demand and lets face it diesel powa is going to give is somewhat of a performance uplift

I'm going to have to second a Mercedes CLK having bought one recently. It's only a CLK 230 convertible as it's meant to be a short-term thing after my C230K died with spectacular rust. It set me back £1550. I think they are cracking cars for the money and Autotrader etc are awash with them. On the previous page of this thread 0ldCh0d has given an excellent run down, although if you do go for the 230 (and it's no slouch at 197bhp) watch out for a blowing manifold as these are expensive to replace. I'm now looking about for a 430 convertible, oh and there's 430 coupe near me with 99K miles with full MB history and the chap can't shift it a £1950.
