He's Hywel Williams, of Plaid Cymru. Seems like an good guy. More than a page of stuff about this and the budget as a whole. He has impressed me anyway! :)

"They're massively disappointed," he said. "They were hoping for a lot more from the government."

Selfish bastards. 2 grand for a P-reg Astra worth 400 quid and they're still not satisfied.Hard shit. Go and buy a cheaper car mongtard and take a look at your credit card bill too.Oh by the way, that grant your getting for your new car; well you're actually paying it and so am I and all your mates too. Will people ever wake up and smell the coffee?BTW I was shocked to learn (pay attention in future Mash) that the fund for this is £300 MILLION.300-fucking-million pounds  You could do a lot of good things with that, you know common sense stuff that helps people less fortunate and benefits the community.

Its my tenth wedding anniversary in a few weeks. I asked Mrs_Seth earlier if I'd get 2 grand if I traded her in for a new model. Didn't go down well.

For goodness sake...Just when you think, yeah not many folk will fall for this scheme, my dad asks what car I'd recommend for his best friend who currently drives a Mk4 Escort 5dr 1.3L who is wanting to get his 2 grand off something new.He likes the VW Polo and by all means it is a safe & sensible proposition. My dad did tell him that the scrappage scheme is a bit of a con in actual fact & you'd get muchness of the screen price anyway if you just haggled! So his RELIABLE, OWNED FROM NEW, NEVER BEEN BUMPED, ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED, 20,000 MILE FORD !!! is now at risk of being destroyed. I've asked my dad to pass on my 'less than impressed-ness'.Oh & at work the other day through the Vauxhall scheme, in came a 1995 BMW 318i SE, 2 owner 44,000 mile minter for scrapping! Inside & out it was a beauty. So I'm heartened to see that some garage is at least trying to save that Vauxhall Magnum on the bay! :D

i know at least from vauxhall, they can loose the franchise if they sell the ecoflex cars to anybody apart from the scrap merchant with the contract.

Lukewarm responseThe car industry had lobbied the government to pay a subsidy of £2,000 per car, rather than just £1,000. A similar scheme in Germany was launched back in December, and the government there pays the larger amount. Unlike the British plan, it also includes cars up to one year old.Paul Everitt, of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, is lukewarm about the UK scheme."We've been dealt the cards that we have," he said. "Our job now is to make the best of it."But the government says motorists still stand to make savings through the scheme.Gareth Thomas, the consumer affairs minister, said: "I don't think this will be a flop. But you're right to say there are good deals in the market already."

Well good to see once again our government is offering a watered down version of a euro plan, though in this case it's actually beneficial to the classic/retro/shite, as if it was cars up to a year old, more would be in the firing line!

There's a little piece in Auto Excess, the TOP TEN SKRAPPAGE motors - how much "profit" you'd make by trading in a 10 yr old car. Can't remember the figures ( I was browsing in Tecso at the time) but it went along the lines of a 10 yr old Matiz's trade in value is normally £170, ergo big bonus if you scrap it. Also said Alfa 158 1.8 was only worth about £580

£170 for a ten year old Matiz? Has it been in a war or something?

If you go the scrappage route, do you have to pay list price or can you still negotiate a deal?

OMG, luk at dat old shitty car bein squashed to deth.

My dad recently bought a Y-reg Brava (last year). I'm surprised people consider this old. I'm currently reading on another forum about people actually shocked that the government are giving them 2K!!!!! for a new car.

I'm sick of experiencing stupidity and greed and a blind race to raise their supposed level of status amongst their neighbours. FFS you are buying a shitty, new Ford Focus 1.6 against trading in a perfectly fine 10 - 20 year old car that cost you 200 quid and costs the same to maintain yearly.

Fuck - that must make my L plate think ancient

Signing it will do absolutely sod all. The best way to 'protest' would be to not trade your old car in for two grand against a new one. Let the dim ones who have too much money and no sense to think they're getting a good deal and we'll just carry on as we are. Don't forget you need to have owned the car for at least a year anyhow and lots of us cannot afford or do not want a new car anyhow.Next week/month there will be another on-line petition which will do the rounds on car forums, make 'angry of Leeds' get all indignant again and absolutely nothing will be done when the petition is delivered, just like this one.

Apparently the most signed petition at the moment addressed to Gordon Brown merely says "Resign"

It is very likely that my girlfriend will be taking advantage of the scrappage scheme.

The second one (mazda) is quite cute, they can have 5 bonus points. Back-dating the V5 to recieve pecunary advantage is fraud though, or at least obtaining money by deception....

What sort of idiot practises dishonesty like that and then announces it to the world  I'm not a snitch but I bet someone will grass them up.

LOL, well I just linked it on the eBay 'community' pages(for anyone not familiar with the eBay forums, it's where all the world's most pedantic, humourless saddos live)

NUMPTY: "I just got £2000 off a new car in the scrappage scheme"AUTOSHITER: "Cool, how long will you keep it?"NUMPTY: "Oh, about 3 years; I'll get rid before it needs an MOT - it might not pass being so old"AUTOSHITER: "So what will it be worth by then?"NUMPTY: "I'd say around 3 grand less than I paid for it"AUTOSHITER: "And how much extra will your finance deal cost you?"NUMPTY: "Maybe £2500"AUTOSHITER: "Ace, so you'll be about £3500 out of pocket then?"NUMPTY: "Yes but I won't notice as it comes out of my account every month and my mates will think I'm really cool"
