Does anyone remember a half minor half Capri car?

Very true but this was the golden days of automotive innocence. In these times originality and the value of the end result was the furthest from the minds of their creators.

 

They just wanted to have fun. I do think in these money obsessed, letigious times, we have lost the innocence of those days when bolting half a jag to half a Capri was though of as a cool idea.

 

I'd agree with this sentiment too. While I don't want to own one of these creations, I'm glad stuff like this exists (or did exist as the case may be) and people are able to do it.

For the most part I don't think it was workmanship that was in question moreover just plain bad taste. There were a lot of these type of customs based on Capris, when you look how long most survived after the 'shows', it was a matter of a few years which goes to show they were probably completely rotten under the shiny artwork and paint job.

 

I think though we should look back on stuff like this fondly as a time when men spent their time doing practical things and learning a skill as opposed to today's generation who mostly sit rotting in front of the television.

I like how they went to all the bother of grafting a Capri front end on the Jaguar, then tried to make the Capri front end look like a Jaguar front end. I can't help thinking there must be an easier way to make the front end of a Jaguar look like the front end of a Jaguar.

I remember a custom mk1 Cappa from about 1980 which had a mk1 Escort van rear end. Might still have a pic in an old Street Machine or Custom Car somewhere.

But then my formative years were spent reading custom car and hot car so its probably just a suppressed desire showing itself

There are some real beauties to be found on the rods n sods site! Loving this Mk1 capri/marina estate hybrid.

I like the swage ending half way along the door, presumably because the creator either got bored sculpting it or more likely ran out of wob.

That works well to be honest just a shame about the rear door tops. Obviously needs the VM diesel running on veg for tip runs though...

"A few days ago a friend from South America sent us these photos with a hardly credible description, as he told us that he knows a man who owns a very rare 1940s VW. By observing these pictures we quickly found what this little thing is: A Glas Goggomobil TS 250 Coupe -or its Argentinian sister made under license, the Isard Coupe. The shape of the rear panoramic window and the little slots to refrigerate the rear engine are very useful clues, although the car also retains its original little wheels and the characteristic dashboard. The rest of the car is a group of modifications in order to maintain it running comfortably; the most important, the VW flat four engine which substitutes the original Two-stroke two-cylinder and that fits into the engine bay with some difficulty. The front end has been completely modified and is now very similar to the exotic Goggomobil Dart. To finish the "cocktail" the rear spoiler with two incorporated lights and modern plastic bumpers... at least the car is still in daily use!"

Some truly bizarre stuff here! I know where the SD1 estate lives and I genuinely tried to buy it a few months ago but the owner wouldn't sell. It's very well engineered (the owner works in the aerospace industry) and not at all like many of the deathtraps in this thread.
