Impreza estate...........a review

Never having owned any sort of Subaru before, I was intrigued to see if these were actually any good. Well, specifically this one. 2003, GX Sport model [no turbo] automatic

This one's done 123k miles, and it wears that mileage bloody well. Exterior, although slightly chavved, is v.smart. Interior is immaculate, everything still works, including the A.C.

Driving experience is slightly bizarre. This one is blessed with addition of a chav cannon, which drones annoyingly, but apart from that, it drives extremely well, and encourages hooliganism around corners. The looks are growing on me, but it's an ugly little sod, although in a friendly way.

Considering it's had some wallet withering expenditure in the last 2000 miles, I'm well pleased with itpost-2866-0-30087100-1476458595_thumb.jpg

the fuel consumption is not what you'd call parsimonious, however......................

that looks bloody lovely, what size engine is in it, and what do you reckon your getting around town ?

Sport is a 2.0 non turbot flat four.

Welcome to AS Subaru club, there are a few on here. Mine is a classic shape import wagon with turbo, also silver.

What's the scores on the doors for mpg? I get 17-18 round township and an all time record of 23.5 on the way to Chumley, strictly on V-power or Tesco 99 of course.

I had one briefly and loved it but lost a packet when I sold it. Fuel economy wasn't too bad if I was sensible but appalling as soon as you start to 'play'. I sold mine to buy a turbo but was then dicked about by the guy. Not sure if that was a shame or a saviour.

25 round the houses, if driven "normally" mid thirties on a run

I love my turbo but you couldn't drive one everyday unless it was lpgd or you owned an oil well.

The bottom end of the market is a bit of a minefield of damaged ones, rusty ones and ragged ones.

Mine seems OK engine and bodywise but has just failed MOT on a few bits, parts are still available but generally quite expensive so small jobs add up if done properly.

Overall: would recommend.

I´ve owned a 2006 2.0R and it was a great car. They like to rust, but mechanically, they are bulletproof and great fun to drive.

This had £1500 spent on it recently..all the belts, all the fluids, all of the filters, and some other odds and sods..............

This is true, I've done various big jobs like the clutch on my old one, and you a feel that they're actually quite agriculturally engineered, ie can easily be fixed by a man in a shed with some hammers.

I like the idea of Autoshite car reviews, done either objectively or tongue-in-cheek.

I recently acquired a 51 plate 1.6 wagon in red with gold wheels. There is a thread somewhere.

I like it but haven't had much use out of it as multi-car insurance is too dear.

I should maybe take it to the AS track day at Knockhill, as although it has a 0-60 of about 25 seconds, it shouldn't have to slow done too much for the corners.

My 9 year Subaru experiance came to an end today- happily! Longest I have owned a car, by a long long way.

Missing it already and looking at ads for manual 3 litre H6 ones. Shame the flat six never got into any Imprezas.

3.0R Legacy auto here, 15-17 around town, 25ish on a run.

Just stuck a load of stick on sound proofing in boot, chav cannon much muted. I could be tempted with a turbo varient..did they do them in Badermatic flavour?
