michael1703 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 So I mot'd this for a customer last year. Advisories wereoffside front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.2.B.1f)centre Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)Coolant LeakOil LeakDiesel Leak I failed on the rear lights, blown bulbs and cross earthing made it look like a shite 1970's Russian disco but letting the water out of the lenses was a big help. The mot has just ran out, the battery is scrap and it's got quite a water leak, I think I put new tyres on it too, location is ip14 6bu I'll get some photos if anyone is interested, think it's a bit giffered Junkman and theorganist 2
catsinthewelder Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I might be interested in the sump if you break it.
Junkman Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 So not one of the advisories was addressed?Excellent! Go for it, Ghosty, if it's not an Estate. If it is, the insurance will bite your balls off.Oh, and I have never seen a Diesel auto. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I have never seen one.
brownnova Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 No Ghosty! Not a 405!! I seem to recall you and 405s not getting on so well at Chumley.... Ghosty, sporty-shite, Cleon-Fonte and 1 other 4
michael1703 Posted October 10, 2016 Author Posted October 10, 2016 Manual saloon,1.9 diesel,think it's a GL
Ghosty Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 No Ghosty! Not a 405!! I seem to recall you and 405s not getting on so well at Chumley.... Ah, but that was a petrol automatic estate, and this is none of those... I'm tempted, to be honest. It's a (more or less) working XUD for £100, and a big car to boot. I imagine the decidedly lower power output than a 2.0 GTX will help with insurance too (after all, best case it has 30bhp less - and with the mention of giffer I'm not expecting a turbo (though I'm not averse to one!), it sounds like a low-ish spec runout car). The problem is, past the purchase price there's not a lot I can do at the moment as I'm still jobhunting. I'd need cheap storage or a custodian (Junkman says don't leave a 405 standing). Can you get any pictures?
michael1703 Posted October 10, 2016 Author Posted October 10, 2016 Will try to get pictures as soon as possible, think it can stay where it is for a couple of weeks as the guy isn't short of space Ghosty 1
michael1703 Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 It's a GLX, Mick the guy selling it, bought it from my customer Vince, Vince bought it from...... Mick, about 18years ago. Mick paid £3200 for it when it was a couple of years old from a mate so his mate had it from new. Front tyres are new budget tyres with zero miles on them Carpets need a hoovering Gratuitous pump picture for the inevitable "does it run on veg" my answer is ... fuck knows Ghosty, Conrad D. Conelrad, Brodders and 1 other 4
michael1703 Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 It's never been washed since I've known it, it looks better than I remember
PiperCub Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Could be mistaken but the injector pump doesn't look like a Bosch one (ie: with the 'flying saucer' top to it) as per my 406 - same engine, same year, it looks more Lucas so probably won't run veg if that is the case.
matty879 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 can someone in the know clarify the veg oil on lucas and bosch pumps?as ive run both pumps on neat asda veg in a few 306 1.9 dt with no issue for many miles.possibly 12k in eack car.also my 220d rover bubble 36k in 18mnths,but veg oil is as dear as diesel now
billyboy406v6 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 That looks rather good for not a lot of pennies !!
Ghosty Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Ooh, spoiler! Ghosty Ownership and Taxation Service (possibly) available. edit: wt@F? £2400 to insure, or £2000 if I can pay in full. OK I suppose but I need to be sure someone'll hire me. Why couldn't I win that bloody GTX...
KruJoe Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Deffo Lucas, that one. Cheap, clean WVO here at 50p/l.
Lacquer Peel Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Ooh, spoiler! Ghosty Ownership and Taxation Service (possibly) available. edit: wt@F? £2400 to insure, or £2000 if I can pay in full. OK I suppose but I need to be sure someone'll hire me. Why couldn't I win that bloody GTX...For a worthless 70bhp diesel saloon???
Ghosty Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Insurance logic. Estate would be more still, 2.0 GTX £400 less.
Ghosty Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 'ang on, this is non-turbo isn't it? GoCompare was assuming it was a turbo for some reason, manual searching for a normal 70bhp diesel has knocked it down to £1800. WANTAGE INTENSIFIES

WANTAGE INTENSIFIESDoes this mean that you will be picking it up at the weekend and driving it to the other side of the country for a pre booked MOT?

You are doing something wrong, man.I just ran this through a comparison site for Junkdaughter #1 and it came back as 1,100.
DVee8 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 £1100 or £1800 is just insane, how is any young driver supposed to get on the road without being done over
Ghosty Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 That's odd Junkman. Full license or provisional?
95 quid Peugeot Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Mine (90bhp) was 1150pa for Son #1(18yo No ,NCB) who was trying to steal it away from me
Junkman Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 £1100 or £1800 is just insane, how is any young driver supposed to get on the road without being done over Bicycle. Like we did when we were 17, because we couldn't afford a car. That's odd Junkman. Full license or provisional? P. Eddie Honda 1
captain_70s Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 £1100 or £1800 is just insane, how is any young driver supposed to get on the road without being done over£1800 sounds good to me! Probably not too far off the price of some 49bhp 1.0 misery box... It should be said though, insurance when you're on your provisional is usually much cheaper than when you've got a full license.

Ghosty Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Thought so JM, I remember you mentioning her learning to drive in Glossop. Insurance is dirt cheap on provisional because you have to be supervised at all times. So that £1100 figure is actually sky high.I turn 21 in a month - I've been wondering for a while if simply being older on paper will make a difference.
DeeJay Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Provisional insurance is cheaper because the driver is accompanied by a "responsible" person and not out with a car full teenage tosspots.
