Dresden, 1963. This old funicular carriage is being taken to the museum, it was replaced by more modern units -

image.png.195bf2c0c5e975daee787ce5c4fe5a3f.png

which you can still travel in today.

But the question is what is the tractor pulling the carriage? Bearing in mind we're in the DDR, it's got the look of a Scammel about it.

A Polish registered DAF in 1994, lots of western lorries ended up getting a second life further east once the curtain collapsed, note it's still carrying its Dutch livery.

It's 1993 and Harper Construction of Milton Keynes took delivery of four IVECO tippers. The bodies were built by McGovern Bodies of Willesden, London and all were fitted with Harsh tipping gear. At the time, McGovern was Harsh’s appointed dealer for the London area.

Note the Ford badges. IVECO had a 52% stake in Ford of Europe (lorry division) and models made at the Ford factories carried the Ford badge.

The last known photographic evidence of a bin collection in Birmingham. Here's another one -

image.png.4676e9d6705068dd17533ae25d996457.png

They are battery powered, made by GY Electric. I can't find much info on them, but I wonder if they're related to GEC who had factories in the area?

The tractor looks to be right hand drive too. Could it be a Scammell? Possibly a leftover from WW2 or a captured one still left behind?

We've had these before, built in Spain, based on an Auto-Union/DKW design.

It's a brand new Foden!

V2TST.jpg.7c84fda7c5edea5046c2a6104322b6c2.jpg

Sadly not really, just a DAF XF pretending to be a 'Foden XL 6000' but Terry Seaman loves his Fodens so much this is the second time he's persuaded his local dealer to supply a DAF with Foden badges. If only Foden were still around this is probably what they'd look like now.

Agreed. That and the other Foden (rebadged Daf) were my favourites.  The 4350 is one of those things you could park outside your living room window, throw the telly away and just sit there facing the lorry day and night.

T45 was a bloody cool shape.

I remember the Leyland version coming out & my dad bringing me brochures home from work.

It was so modern looking folk really started to think  Leyland were going to be OK..

I remember them well. There seemed to be loads of them around in the 80’s and 90’s. I always liked them and they’re still a nice looking truck but you never see them anymore. The last ones I saw were sat on some waste ground out of use gathering dust in Cyprus.
