Car wax recommendations

I need to clean my modern over the weekend. I've had it two years and it's not had a proper clean in that whole time and looks like crap.

I'm also on a pretty tight budget.

I've seen bilt hamber clay recommended here before, does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap car wax to go with it?

As it happens I really like bilt hamber autobalm, you can buy a sample pot for £5ish and it should do at least 5 cars. Coli 845 (insulator wax) also great £15ish, I usually use carlack before

Nattys Blue paste wax

It's fucking amazing! I have a load of Dodo Juice panel pots but nattys blue trumps them all fo ease of application, ease of buffing and finish and beading! It also lasts for ages, my first pot lasted nearly 5 years, hardly made a dent in the pot I've had for nearly 2 years (granted I've not used it as much though). A brand new baby bath sponge cut in half makes a lovely applicator pad.

5m19s for water porn! Applied over a good wash, rinse, clay, rinse, polish with autoglym super resin polish and glaze with poorboys world black hole it looks good enough to swim in!

The waxed bits of the Meriva halfways down the page the week we got it when I was still a detailing freak will be nattys blue as well.

It isn't a fashionable product, but I have found Autoglym Silicon Resin polish to be very effective and easy to use. It contains fillers which cover scratches well. They changed the formulation some time ago and solved the problem  of the white dust removing it used to cover everything with - I also think the shine is better than it was. I have used a few waxes on my car and find the Autoglym is one of the better ones.

Remember that polish is not wax though. Polish revives paint, wax protects it. Though SRP still gives a nice, beady effect.

When it comes to easy, Turtle Wax Ice is about as easy as wax gets. Not the best finish perhaps, but literally wipe it on with a sponge and gently buff off.

Can you wax rust???????

Anyway, I find the Autoglym HD wax quite good and easy to use. Gives a lovely shine. The collinite stuff is very durable and is great over the winter.

Both are reasonably priced.

  • 2 weeks later...

Years ago I used to use the earlier Mer in the blue container and found it really good stuff, the only downside being the powdery residue it left. Recently I've tried the new formula stuff in the black bottle and can't get any useable result out of it at all.

If anybody wants to collect it I'll happily give nearly a full bottle away it's that bad.
