Conrad D. Conelrad Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I think it's a great purchase. I can't wait to install that 4.6 in my P6 after the Rangey shits itself in some hilariously expensive manner. Junkman, scruff, dome and 2 others 5
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Make sure to black out the windows and get a NI number plate with 'BIG' in it. maybe fit a hacked-about placca grille from an L322 FTW. RoadworkUK, Brodders, Craig the Princess and 6 others 9
Dave_Q Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Shirley they can't all require an entire suspension system - the did one on Wheeler Dealers and Ed China fixed the dicky pump with a 12p o ring kit, or something.

Junkman Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Amazing how a Talbot Solara thread can deteriorate. Conrad D. Conelrad 1
Junkman Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Speaking of Talbot Solaras, in all fairness, especially toward JohnK, we had to remove yet another flock of pink elephants from carburetter jets. This seems to be the only issue that plagues the car after being pressed back into service.Apparently it's fixed now, but this could crop up again for a while. The fuel pump is okay and the fuel filter is clean, but on two occasinos now the car suddenly didn't run 100% right and in both instancesI found some pink gunk clogging up a carb jet. It's an easy fix however and can be done at the roadside.
JohnK Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Not fit for purpose mate I will take you to court!! Junkman and 320touring 2
Felly Magic Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Could mean the tank and fuel lines need a good flushing perhaps
garethj Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Not fit for purpose mate I will take you to court!! I think a 1985 Talbot's purpose is being stuck by the side of the road, broken down. Therefore it is exactly fit for purpose. Well bought by the way JohnK and Junkman 2
scruff Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 You realise that everything in the supermarket (and almost all other shops) was delivered in air sprung delivery lorry. It's not the system that's the problem Well yes and no, my lorry has done 14 years and 900,000km without needing any attention on the air suspension at all, due to high quality components carefully chosen by the manufacturers. I think it would be fair to say there's an element of cost cutting in the bits chosen for the RRC and P38 air suspension, fundamentally there's nothing wrong with it but the parts don't last the course.  I agree with you on the maintenance though, champagne motoring on a special brew budget and all that
Rusty_Rocket Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 The thing about P38 Rangies and all LR products is that they are supported so strongly by the aftermarket. This is obviously a good thing, as you'll need lots of replacement parts. I recommend Island 4x4 if you want a supplier- http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/However, for the love of God- if the part you need is required to move, seal something, or do any kind of job at all, DO NOT BUY Britpart stuff unless it has a 'G' at the end of the part number.  Even then, the part is likely to be totally unusable out of the box.I have a 1971 RR, 1993 Disco and 1990 Offender and all have suffered because of 'blue box' syndrome.. richardthestag, Junkman and scruff 3

Junkman Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Could mean the tank and fuel lines need a good flushing perhaps We drove it to the Northwest Powerhouse meeting today and it performed flawlessly, so I think there is no gunk left in the jets now.We checked the fuel pipes and the fuel pump this afternoon and they are clean, so there is nothing untoward in the tank or pipes. It was really down to some pink gunk caught in the carb jets, so if it continues happening (which it didn't today), I suggest toget an overhaul kit for the carb, take it apart and really clean it out. At least that's what I'd do if I kept the car. I honestly don't think this is a biggie considering the car practically hasn't moved in years, then we came along and suddenly drove itfor 400 miles in a week. Please note that under no circumstances this led to an FTP.It just started to hesitate a bit, or had no proper tickover. When running right, which it did most of the time, it's actually impressively sprighty, more in the Italian school of things, rather thana French one, and it actually defies its decidedly 'dad' looks. You can hoon it around quite nicely, if you aren't scared of body roll, some (not me) might find the steering a bit overassisted, though. The gear change is definitely French, it feels like stirring a Mousse au Chocolate, but that's something one simply has to live with. On a positive note, it looks like you get 350 odd miles out of a tank. According to my careful* calculations, this translates to about35 OMGMPG or thereabout. It's a good car. Considering its lack of use over a long period, it's doing a sterling job.
320touring Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Junkman is back on form! The WBODas (Winter Beater of Destroyed airbag suspension) is strong with this one. WELL PLAYED! Junkman 1
Cleon-Fonte Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 some (not me) might find the steering a bit overassisted, though. I certainly found it overassisted in Glossop tonight, but that's only because I hadn't read this thread properly and assumed it was unassisted. Imagine my surprise when I went to put in a steering effort that would have shamed Arnie only to find the wheel twirl away effortlessly. The gearbox was a revelation too, typically PSA but with none of the bus-like nonsense of the BX. It certainly goes well, with all the French floating mattress feel that you could ever want. I wonder how shit that £50 Alpine is..? Junkman 1
Junkman Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 Junkman is back on form! The WBODas (Winter Beater of Destroyed airbag suspension) is strong with this one. WELL PLAYED! Well, err...how shall I put this?It failed an MoT (whatever that counts for I know not) on 'perished' balloons a couple of years ago.I found this out when I checked its MoT history, which was AFTER I had a look at the car, during which I noticed that they look like new.The rest of the MoT history (now there is a contradiction in terms) is an endless array of niggly bits, blown bulbs, insufficient screenwashand other completely meaningless H&S nonsense, for which I should cut the MoT tester's balls off and put them in my Christmas Pudding. Unreliable? I don't think so.  I wonder how shit that £50 Alpine is..? I say. I say. What if it's like the one that's soon going to be JohnK's problem, what, what?I say. Once I have my Rangie, a Safari shall come forth.Even if it turns out to be a total dog (the Alpine I mean, because the Rangie is for sure),at least some significant impovement to The Climate would have been achieved, no? Ghosty Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 After today's meeting, I'll say that Solara seats seats are GR10,000. Nice amount of space inside too. I see a P38 knocking about Ashton sometimes with a wanky manipulated* plate reading P38HSE, where the 8 is a 3 and a screw cap. Awful. This one looks nice in green and on the small wheels, with tyres with decent amounts of sidewall. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 See, that's why I like it, too.Completely unmonged, unpretentious, and should everything fail, I can still flog it to some big shit at Adobe Inc.
Eddie Honda Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I found some pink gunk That'll possibly be some important (or mibbie not) parts of the fuel system disintegrating with post-1986 petril. E5 is the work of Satan. Junkman 1
