The F Victor thing is shocking - what a heap of shit they were. They would rot so badly that the front chassis legs would rust away at the bulkhead, causing the car to sag in the middle. Also if you braked too hard or had a minor front end shunt, the screen would pop out. The FB was a step forward and the FC101 a definite step backwards.

The Chevette and Cavalier (Vauxed up Opels) were the first of the really good stuff. Read the glowing Chevette road tests and weep at a wasted opportunity. Never mind your Mark 2 Escort shit, a factory 2 litre Chevette with the 5 speed Getrag and LSD would have creamed an RS2000.

I love Vauxpedia, I've been known to spend hours just reading 1 models press releases and road tests . I did this with the Chevette recently- I don't even like Chevettes.

Happy days, there's week's worth of one handed reading material there, nice one.

Vauxhall should do a vintage clothing range - tartan trousers from Chevette seat trim and a red velour 'Viceroy' smoking jacket. I'd wear both and not feel ashamed,

What a brilliant site - didn't know of its existence until today.

Loads of great pictures and information relating to my favourite Vauxhalls, namely the Carlton, Viceroy and Royale, cars which I have liked since they were current :)

Vauxpedia sounds like it should be an STD, as in 'have you heard about Fred? only gone and caught a dose of Vauxpedia from that tart down the Rose and Crown'

Check out the PC Cresta and Viscount section.

There's pic and info of an experimental 1966 7.0 litre V8 140mph front wheel drive Cresta using GM Oldsmobile Toronado engine and chain-driven transmission.

As far as factory experiments go at a time when they were making the HA Viva that's pretty, errrr, experimental.

Have spent hours and hours over the past year looking at this fantastic site.

The BTV looked err basic.

When you look at the Cavalier Mk2 it was designed to be operator friendly, it goes on about ease of maintenance, not all this lifestyle shit they talk about now. It was designed to be a comfortable family car for pounding the motorway. Starting to want one now...

I think if Vauxhall engines hadn't been so rubbish they would have shafted Ford a full decade earlier than they did. The HC Viva was a much better car than the RWD Escort in nearly every other way.

Not sure if I've had a bang on the head here but when have Vauxhall shafted Ford or vice versa?

Both the Escort and the Viva were awful by today's standards. Both rotted like fuck, slow as shit in standard form, tinny, useless on long journeys where do I end...

Vauxhall handled the transition into the 80s much better than Ford did and gained some ground that has never been fully recovered.

The cavalier was good but by the early 80's the Chevette should have been put to bed. Cavalier or Sierra I suppose it's a personal preference really. Both had their merits. I preferred the Sierra but I've a soft spot for the Cavalier. I think they lost the plot a bit in the 1990's when they brought the Vectra out which was a bit of a retrograde move from the Cavalier. Still though the Omega was a better car when it came out than the Granada was.

I think GM just hit a peak at the same time Ford didn't quite get it right. They managed to bring out a tunable engine that was suitable for motorsport just when Ford brought out a boat anchor with almost no tuning potential. I find the FWD Vauxhalls horrible to drive but they were nicer to sit in and had better engines than the equivalent Fords, and that's all that a lot of buyers noticed.

The Zetec was immensely tuneable. Vauxhall had some good cars out in the 80's but look at the 1990's, the original Vectra couldn't hold a candle to the Mondeo. The Escort and Astra both at that time, fairly mediocre in standard form, the Corsa and Fiesta probably on par.

The CVH gets a bit of a bad name but it did service in everything from the Fiesa 1.4 to RS Turbos. It was a bit coarse but it was economical. Vauxhall 4 cyl wasn't without faults with the varijet carbs fucking up and camshafts wearing out prematurely.

I thought it was what the police would charge a serial vauxhall licker like cavcraft with
