Princess Plates - DECIDED

Where'd he get that wing?  They're like rocking horse poop!

EDITED TO ADD:  Actually, it looks like it's just been painted.  I recall the wings on this one were actually quite good.

I think he stripped off all the paint to find massive amounts of surface rust and pitting under the paint. I seem to recall seeing it on Facebook or somewhere.

I don't use Farcebook, can't be doing with it, not even for Princess info.  Just checked the MoT history thingy and it passed the last one with no advisories which is quite an achievement given its appearance!

Twas at Cosford , spent a bomb on mechanical stuff , new stainless exhaust , competition cam, new this that the other . the wing he just rubbed all down filled rust removed and splatted matt black while he gets on with the rest , all pumped up , new tyres etc.... looks pretty damn good TBH

If he's not shy of spending on the mechanical stuff, getting the displacers fitted with schrader valves to get the proper amount of nitrogen in them would be *very* wise, it reduces the chance of failure quite a bit.  Alternatively, grabbing some Ambassador units would also be a good idea, I understand they're a design improvement over those on the Princess and you don't see failed displacers on Ambassadors as often.

Most of all though, I'm just delighted he's getting on with the old boat.  It's one of those cars I would have liked to have kept, I was worried after Phil sold it that it would just disappear back into obscurity and neglect.  I really shouldn't be so sentimental about them, they're just metal boxes.  But what metal boxes they are!

I've now ordered a pair.  They're not what I set out to buy initially so apologies to all for doing a forum usual.  They're what I like and feel will fit the car.  If I need my rivet digit fix, I've got the Renault I can rub my face on.

I have to agree, with what you are doing contemporary plates sound a good bet.

I'd forgotten all about serck plates and I'm after a pair for one of the pandas now, I just need to find the one that doesn't have any original plates on it worth saving - probably the 4x4.

I could put a riveted plate on the oldest panda, the back plate is delaminating and looks crap.

Thanks for starting a thread that will now cost me brass!

I will pass this on good sir :-)

Here's the plates I got.  I'm happy with them and that's all that matters.  Thanks to Mat_the_cat and www.a1showplates.com for the suggestion and the ridiculously speedy service, respectively.

They look good. Are the mirrors american? They look like 70's yank style ones anyway.

They're replica Ford Galaxie or something like that, brand new and quite nicely made for modern units.

It's your car, so do what you like.
