You collected it yet?

Sounds like you've got your sensible head on with this one.  Finding out what the damage is going to be before making a decision is the best course of action.  Lols if Moog somehow ends up with it a THIRD time.

I think the old girl is getting a bit tired in all honesty. Chompy by his own admission didn't drive it with much sympathy. I didn't thrash it but I didn't exactly go all miss daisy on it either. You need a reliable motor which sadly I don't think this will be much more without a lot of spend.

Hmmmm knockhill fodder?

The modified LDA pin is still in the boot. MOT until december and 2 new Avon ZT-5's and a new exhaust. £150? Turn the fuel right up, job done!

If I could drive it quite far up the country that would help collect the hdi xantia, otherwise I might have to give renault a go...

Depending on what Monday brings of course

I was mostly joking.  The biggest pain will be that if any of green blood escapes then that is all brakes and steering which would not be fun!

Posted

320tourings known for his mad capers though isn't he... Neil, wanna buy a fun track car?

Posted

Oh ffs that doesn't help! Been running the idea through my head all day and am almost thinking it's a great plan...

If you still have it at the end of the month that could work, or if you want rid with a small deposit and I pay the rest at the end of the month that might also work...

Where are you, Cheltenham? Who would buy my xantia though, I don't want to scrap it, and the front tyres are only 2 weeks old...

Please tell me the xantia is terminal and I don't need the hassle....

You gooner is great value, just googled the model and one came up at 1600  Looks a good spec too.

Not at all, it just needs more love than I want to give it. I could spend £400 on it getting the suspension tip top, give it a service, new rear tyres and other bits, but the arches will still be rusty, as will underneath and the engine still oily and rattly...

Its not that I'm bored (well, a bit), but that is it worth it?

But you'll hate the clutch again. Don't do it (not that I'll stop you)

It is. Plus it's a known quantity, cant ever recall a post where it's gone horribly wrong. Did I read somewhere that the face-lift sorted the small issues* the older 2.2dci's had?

Posted

The clutch was only a pain in the arse in rush hour traffic. In all honesty I'd love it back but I've not the money to run two cars nor fix xantia and give it the care it needs.

Posted

I'd knock some money off for it to go back to you, but as you said, you'd need to get your wallet out at some point.

Might still go get it looked at on Monday, at least I can be honest about what it needs, I could be worrying over nothing (but now really want a gooner)

Posted

I could not do it mate. Funds limited to one car only and if I change c2 it will be for an auto. I can't give it the love it needs sadly

Posted

Pah!

Sorry! If the closest you could get was not 300 miles away I would be tempted... If things change I'll let you know, still waiting for Kiltox to say if my terms above can be met!

I need to have a good long think. Gooner2 or Xantia?

Posted

I can bring it from Cumbria to Blackburn then Moog motor movers to the oxenfordingtons

Posted

Who takes the xantia back to where though? Or does Moog have alternate transport to collect back from my way?

Posted

I'm in Cheltenham yeah. Flexible on where/what/when on payment, it's no great hardship to have it knocking around the yard until you're ready though

Posted

Cool, thanks. Looks like I have 2 good options to consider!

I shall go and have a think. Xantia has the reliability, gooner has the toys...

Watch this space! I only want to decide once so as not to mess anyone about

The Gooner is a car that is simple to decide when enough is enough - when you need to open your wallet up. Basically if it's not a free fix (or under a tenner) then it's not worth fixing. If it's not essential to the car working then you don't bother fixing it.

That's how it needs to be treated.

You have mentioned most of the problems with it Sam but you don't seem to have mentioned the galloping rear arch/sill rot.

It is quite bad.

Just saying.

I've been glossing over it, but that's basically the baseline issue. It's got so bad, it'll probably pass another mot but will kill the car soon.

Its next owner needs to be someone not as fussy, who will just drive it until it breaks or the mot runs out.

And if it shits itself when I can't afford to fix it, I'm stuffed...

It would be a lovely thing to waft around in though, noticed a few front bushes on the last mot...

The xantia would probably be more reliable, but I noticed lhm pipe rot as an advisory on the last test too...

There's bound to be something else on here within budget though tbh. Plus you've spent more than £250 on this Xanita on MOTs, exhausts, tyres and other parts. Can save up the cash by not fixing stuff and waiting till it goes pop.

What about the Xsara HDI that was on here? Is that still available?

Have any of the gooners on here actually majorly shat themselves? Apart from the one scary found at the car boot...
