Kiltox Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Can't find my old thread but I really can't be arsed ever getting round to fixing my 2003 MX5 1.6 with 114k miles. Splash green which is a pretty stylish* colour. Starts and drives. Recently replaced the power steering rack because of leaky pipes. Rusty. Really quite rusty. Mostly the sills - the chassis legs still seem to have plenty of solid metal which I'm lead to believe is good. Most likely worth saving if you can weld it up yourself otherwise it'll make its money as a breaker Not been on the road for a couple of years so bring a trailer for sure 300 quid - part x or swap welcome Located near Cheltenham. Bring a trailer. KruJoe and Steve79 2
KruJoe Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Old thread was two clicks away: http://autoshite.com/topic/23448-anyone-want-a-welding-job-knackered-mx5-content/ "Green" eh? Is that what they call it?My ex-John_F MX5 is that colour, we all know it's blue. But it gets a lot of compliments, and it's Mrs_KJ's favourite car colour. Our front number plate fell off too. Shame we don't really need a spares car. I do prefer your wheels to mine.
Kiltox Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 Couldn't find it using the mobile site, sorry! Yeah it's a strange "green" I do agree
Kiltox Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 Also, thought I had this up at £350 before and was dropping the price so someone put £250 in my hand and get it out of here!
Station Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Is it green? Is it blue? Or is it Blreen? dugong, Kiltox and Cavcraft 3
Tamworthbay Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I am imagining a group of Mazda designers sat around trying to say turquoise, then after a few minutes going 'fluck it, call it green' Rusty_Rocket, spike60, pilninggas and 1 other 4
Tamworthbay Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I never realised mk2s were grot prone too. yup, but they tend to go in the front chassis legs which is hidden and far far worse, if this is just the sills as mentioned then it's an easy fix and a bargain for someone.
PiperCub Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 ^^ The first couple of years of Mk2's are supposed to be very rot-prone underneath for some reason.
John F Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 The front chassis legs aren't difficult to repair (http://autoshite.com/topic/21650-mx5-de-rustifying/) and can be done without disturbing the front subframe or even removing the front wheels, but it's a big help if you've got access to a ramp.
dugong Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I never realised mk2s were grot prone too. When Mazda copied the MGB (fuck all this "it's a pure Elan for the 'Nineties" bollocks) it plagiarised everything, right down to the fizzle. Cavcraft and DeeJay 2
Kiltox Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 Still got this if anyone is interested - as I said before I'm very open to swaps etc on this (new shite without actually buying anything can sneak past domestic management quite easily.....)
John F Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hmm. Don't suppose you're interested in a part-ex for an LT35 camper, are you?
Kiltox Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 Afraid not - not at the moment anyway! Much skint.
John F Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Hehe, fair enough. I may come back to you if I get round to actually selling the LT at some point, the Disco's MOT is looming though so I suspect that'll take up my free time for a while.
Bobthebeard Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 A derisory offer may be, err offered as I have a friend who wants one of these. But I am the one who would have to repair it. KruJoe 1
Kiltox Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 I'm listening Yard clear out is almost complete, this is the last that needs to go.
Kiltox Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Started this up to move it to another space in the yard - fired up first turn of the key and runs smoothly, engine and gearbox are sweet.
