Fur' Zayle - 1997 Mercedes Sloth 208D Camper

Due to the offer of a room in a pile of bricks and mortar at a price too good to turn down, my Sprinter camper has become surplus to requirements.

It's a 208D Sprinter which has a basic camper conversion (double bed and storage). MoT until mid-August, alloy wheels, fairly solid (some minor rust spots on off-side), 2.3D engine and 5sp manual gearbox. Comes with curtains, mattress, carpet. Also some service items (fuel/oil filter and track rod end) ready to fit. There is a crack in the windscreen, not in the drivers direct line of sight though.

A great little camper overall, ideal for festivals or wild camping!

It's up for £850 elsewhere, 10% discount for AS'ers. See my fleet thread for more details.

There is 100% no chance my missus would sleep in this. What's it say on the V5, van or camper? Cheers

Van. It doesn't meet the requirements to be registered as a camper as I understand it.

Is this because of her excitement or your stamina ? Either way I don't think she's likely to appreciate you telling everyone that you'd be at it all night if you bought this.

@Cavcraft if it helps in your decision making, the suspension is very soft.

Where are you in our fine land?

Sorry to hijack but this 2.3d - is it as woeful as the 2.3d from the Serena?

If so.....excellent.

The engine dates back to the 190D so it's from the same era, quieter and a bit more powerful I think.

This Sprinter* is mega appealing, you don't see many early Sprinters these days, even the facelift models are thin on the ground.

The Serena is probably better 0-60. The Sloth plods. It'll pull anything up to about 35-45mph, 1st/2nd/3rd gears it's actually quite gutsy. 4th/5th is where it becomes a gentle cruise up to a comfortable 55mph plod.

Edit: I've just remembered I used to have a Series 3 Land Rover fitted with a Nissan D23 (the engine from the Serena) - it wasn't too bad at all. Seemed to suit the Land Rover far more than the machine it came from.

I had a Vanette with the CD23 engine and it went well enough once it got going, up to 40MPH it felt quite perky due to the low gearing.

What difference does it make if it's classed as a camper?

It always used to be for insurance, tax and speed limits.

I've not had a passion wagon for about 10 years now though - so I'm not sure how relevant the first two are any more.
