Mercedes free summer insoection

Heard an advert for a free Mercedes summer inspection on the radio a couple of times. Listening closely I noticed that it does not give an age limit for the car. Does any shiter fancy calling their bluff and booking some 30 year old rust bucket in for an inspection. Bonus is the will top up fluids, clean your air con and clean the car inside and out.

I've fallen for this before - expect to spend an hour or two in the dealers while they try and find safety issues they can charge you for fixing. Fine if you want to read the papers and have free coffee though.

I'm curious as to what they'd find on my daily work car, it's just gone over 200,000 and a list of what's about to give up might be useful.

 

Daughter No.1 is currently using the P reg C Class everyday to commute from MK to Watford rather than her Fiat 500( new type) and is going to book it into Mercedes Watford. I've told her that whatever they say not to let them do anything apart from what's free. Still expect a call along the lines of ' Dad, they say I can't drive it unless........'

I saw this and was tempted to take my 1989 197k S  class down but don't think can be arsed, though it would probably be a first, - mouse hole in rear seat and rat turds on top of engine. Is Weil's disease a safety issue?  Less hassle to clean it myself.

To be honest you can book your Benz in for a "complimentary health check" any time at most Merc dealers. Not really worthwhile, and nothing that you or I couldn't do on the driveway. Tyres, brakes, lights, levels, general condition check, Most people who book their cars in are just after something for nothing. A lot of them have cars which are only 18 months old anyway.

 

A lot of Merc dealers aren't especially accommodating towards older vehicles- the MB training that costs so much only really covers recent production cars. For anything over 10 years old you're better of with a specialist simply because there's a very good chance that an ex-MB indy mechanic will have cut his teeth on your car when it was new.

Can't see how they'd enforce that? It's your property. If they are going to valet the car for free that's good, the damning critique of my car would make for a good laugh.

These free checks are just designed to find work to keep their service departments busy. I would love to take a car in perfect condition in to here or a kwik fit type place to see what they find. Most customers will take them at their word so are easy pickings.

Mercedes in Liverpool have free Danish pastries, chocky and fruit too so get yerself down there.

It would take more than a free pasty to get me near a Merc dealer, they were snot-faced enough when I had the temerity to call in asking for W201 parts.   All I got out of that was a stream of email spam.
