Korean classic in the making -MOT time

Update time. Sorry no photos as i only had 30mins play time. Popped to scb Saturday after work and got the maf and a tube thing off the mentor they just got in. When i took the pipe off the part the accelerator cable attaches to in the scrap car i noticed how clean it was. Got home and yesterday morning set about fitting the new pipe and maf. The butterfly part of the accelerator thing on mine was dirty so i cleaned that and built it all back up. Fired it up and a better idle, ran the car up and down the drive a bit as no tax and it does feel much much better. Fingers crossed that one thing off the list.

Used to work for a Kia dealer when these were new.  Not awful like a Rio, but you wouldn't have wanted the 1.8 litre version in GSX trim, handling was terrifying.  As was the V6 Magentis.  Not a fan of Kias at all but the largely forgotten Cerato (which came between these and the Cee apostrophe d) was unexpectedly a decent car to drive.  Dealers couldn't supply parts though, I used to bring a neighbour's in for service and MOT and each yearly visit lasted about 2 weeks and cost her in excess of a grand a time.

Mk2 Rio diesel from 2005 to 2008 is THE best car Kia have ever made.

I did wonder what the 1800 would be like, guessed it would be an experience  I remember way back a seeing a options brochure for the 1800, with side skirts and some bumper trim, but never seen it on a car.

Some of the posts lost on this one. With the new maf car is running really well, apart from a slow battery drain. Need to look at that. Collected my new front wings from my mate last night, they are in massive boxes. Will get a look at them over the weekend. Just needs mot now then onto the bodywork.

It's an elegant looking car in that colour.  Well worth the attention you are giving it.

Booked in for wings and a few other wee bits to get painted mid July. DMB plates have arrived with the dealer logo on where my Grandfather bought it new. It collected a few stone chips on the side, its parked next to the house and the render stones fall off in heavy rain. Found an old colour magic chip stick thing and while its not a permanent fix looks a lot better.

New wings have just been fitted. Yet to see the car. Still needs a few other bits, but no money in the kitty for that just now. Needs a new exhaust as well. Might sorn it again over winter, its not done much this year at all but then i can save a bit and get the exhaust and other couple of bits painted next year. Will pop a photo on later.

 clipped a wall reversing on Saturday. So annoyed never bumped a car before. Bumper needs painting now to. One step forward and one back. As least its plastic and won't rust.

Mot is due on this soon. Done a massive 600 miles in it since the last. I really have no need for it but would never part with it. Wish i had a dry place to store it.

Looked underneath last night. Sorted the rust on the front subframe out, better than i was expecting. Sill end i think will need a little welding for the mot but we will see. I hope to use it more this year if it passes again.

I see down to 470 taxed ones left now. And I bet few are as pampered as yours!

I know, they are rare now. Never really see them about at all now.

You know, it’s taken me this long to realise you’ve changed your user name!

Good luck with your MOT btw!

I still have the Reliant. What with the addition of the 75 i felt a user name change was in order.

Mot expired on this. No money just now to get it looked at so going to get a car cover and try to keep it. What is the best bet car cover wise that won't flap all the paint off when its windy?

I’ve used these covers for years https://www.classicadditions.com/en-GB/kia-shuma-car-covers/vml_1052-167794 The ‘ultimate outdoor’ cover is what I use on the Mercury but that one was custom made due to excessive size!

They’re good quality, breathable and last well. Material is soft so doesn’t harm paint. They’re much better than cheap shit from Argos etc etc or a cat piss tarp.

Wash and polish the car first ideally then cover it. The covers have elasticated ends and two centre straps with buckles so wind shouldn’t be any problem.

Cheers, these look spot on. Think i will get one. I just can't stand seeing it sitting covered in crap. One day i will get it back on the road, but this should help keep it protected.

All I will say is, don’t just cover it and ignore it. When the weathers dry/nice uncover the car and let it air off, maybe open the windows for a bit too.

I tend to only use the covers for wet weather protection. Once it dries up roll the cover off or fold it back and let the car air off/dry. I’ve not seen any covers yet that are 100% water tight and they all get a bit of condensation in them after a while, particularly in winter.

I will do. Nice to have a sit in it from time to time anyway  :-D

That is a lovely thing, not seen any in a while. Shame really.

I doubt it would be in as good nic as this one anyway. Love the colour too by the way ;)

Unless you have £££s I would not bother with a cover as they do more harm than good. I bought a £50 item for the Corsa and the condensation it caused was tremendous, followed by mould everywhere inside. Once I uncovered it and cleaned it up it didnt come back. A good coat of polish is the best form of defence, imo.

Covers outside are BAD news! My ex next door neighbour had a Triumph 2000 and a Rover V8S and bought very expensive vented, lined covers. They still got damaged in the wind and they ruined the paint on both cars... though to be fair, the paint on the Rover was ruined before! Best to let them get wet and the air/wind to dry them and keep them ventilated.
