That's worth the admission price on its own.

I might have a run up with the Merc for a looky see but won't be doing the free admittance thing, I'd feel a divvy and my boredom threshold is set a lot lower than 5 hours!

I can't see me sitting there on a deckchair, flask and hamper.

Having people tell me it's a nice Jag and oh such and such had a Jag like that back in the day.

I don't mind talking to people about it but hour after hour in the rain, naahh.

PIKCHOORS!

Three reprobates from this ere forum headed down together.  Somehow, even though he set off considerably later than us, Chompy arrived before Mike and I did by a considerable margin!  Here he is chilling out surveying the very damp seaside scene.

20160612-001.jpg

A very varied selection for such a small show.  I doubt there's anywhere else you'd see a row that had a Minor, a Capri and a Valiant next to one another.

20160612-004.jpg

Tidy Montego.

20160612-005.jpg

Respectable, if not pristine, Maestro.

20160612-010.jpg

Mustang, Lea Francis W Type (more on that later), 2CV, Mini, MG F and a more different Valiant.

20160612-007.jpg

Cresta on meaty wheels.

20160612-008.jpg

Handsome Vulgalour colour coded Prefect.  I wanted to take this home until they started playing 1950s music in it in that way people do at shows.

20160612-009.jpg

Modern performance vehicles.

20160612-011.jpg

One of which was this Sierra.

20160612-012.jpg

Victor 101 ESTATE.  Gorgeous in black with a red interior.  I wanted to LIVE in this.

Lovely little 340.

20160612-021.jpg

Very, very clean Hillman Hunter.

20160612-024.jpg

Who doesn't love a Maxi?  (Shush, it's a rhetorical question)

20160612-028.jpg

While I might be indifferent towards the car, the colour I can get excited about.

20160612-030.jpg

There was a Passat and it had the most delicious all-red interior.  This is the only shot I could get of it.

20160612-031.jpg

20160612-033.jpg

20160612-034.jpg

This chap has a build thread over on the blue forum and likely some other places.  Looks really nice in person.  Nissan Maxima, not an import.

20160612-035.jpg

20160612-043.jpg

Pretty sure this is a kit that's supposed to look like a Porsche and is usually based on a Beetle.  This one, however, had a watercooled radiator in the back, four stud wheels and none of the usual Beetle camber so I'm not sure what it is, was, or is based on.

20160612-036.jpg

Very clean little TR6

20160612-039.jpg

Mike got very excited and probably a little bit moist over this one.

20160612-042.jpg

The one on the left looks like it's had a stroke.

20160612-045.jpg

I have to admit I like how the many-windowed VW campervan looks.  I don't like how it looks enough to spunk several tens of thousands of pounds on one, but I find them inoffensive and even slightly charming.

20160612-047.jpg

No, Dougal, this caravan is small...

I like this.

20160612-049.jpg

20160612-050.jpg

Surprisingly standard looking Fezzer.

20160612-052.jpg

Mobylette.  A little later it was being piloted around the field too.

20160612-054.jpg

I really like this machined decoration.

20160612-055.jpg

There were some really old cars there, this Valor fuel can was on a very appealing little number.

20160612-057.jpg

A charming little Morris Eight.

20160612-058.jpg

I have quite a weakness for things like this and the effort of previous owners to handpaint little details like the car's name in the coach line.

20160612-059.jpg

One of the better proportioned offerings from the era.

20160612-061.jpg

This Capri was wonderfully soggy in a 1980s street furniture sort of way.

20160612-062.jpg

20160612-063.jpg

It still has the slant six engine and dog dish hubcaps.  It has a turquoise interior.  It has mad styling.  I'm a little bit in love with these Valiants.  My screwdriver set came in handy for adjusting the carb which had decided to get a bit sticky for some reason.  It sounded lovely at idle once it was sorted.

20160612-115.jpg

This was the other Valiant at the show, a RHD import from Australia, that had a plaque proclaiming it to be 1 of 3 in the UK.  Maybe Valiants are like busses?

Save the whales.

20160612-110.jpg

This Minor pick up truck I really liked because it's been ages since I've seen one put together like this in a long time.  Had some great details to it.  The MO grille and headlights had me fooled on the way in into thinking it WAS a MO.

20160612-117.jpg

The Dodge bed and rear arches are perhaps a little on the big side but the Jaguar rear lights work well.

20160612-118.jpg

20160612-119.jpg

Reverse steels on the back something I've not seen for ages with the added bonus of actually being a pair each side!

20160612-120.jpg

20160612-121.jpg

20160612-122.jpg

The exhaust was spectacular in its own right.

20160612-127.jpg

This show was a shut-in affair.  If you turned up late you couldn't get in so we didn't get a proper look at the Chevrolet Chevelle, TVR somethingorother or the series 3 E-type amongst other things that were parked outside.  For some reason, there were exceptions.  This was later let in and was for sale.  1.3 Automatic Vandenplas in tidy but rough condition.

20160612-124.jpg

Sorry, let me just put the camera over the fence for you.

20160612-123.jpg

Bentley.  It did look right so I'm assuming it was a real one, nothing particularly modern jumped out at me on it and it appeared to have a leather body.

20160612-125.jpg

20160612-126.jpg

We'll be right back after these commercials.

Judging purely by the evidence of this photograph, I believe that gentleman has just punched this defenceless SS1 in the face and the man behind him is calling the police.

20160612-130.jpg

1800 turbo something according to the boot and under the bonnet there is definitely a turbo.

20160612-131.jpg

20160612-150.jpg

20160612-152.jpg

Blast from the past with this hot rod Pop.  Jag rear end, Vauxhall front, SD1 V8 under the bonnet and what appeared to be Range Rover seats crammed inside somehow.  Jacked up rear that was fully chromed, mirrors on the floor underneath, chromed wheels, airbrushed bootlid... it ticked all the boxes for this sort of thing.

20160612-133.jpg

20160612-136.jpg

20160612-137.jpg

And now, for something completely different.  When building a replica, attention to detail is vital.

20160612-142.jpg

Attention to detail.

20160612-145.jpg

Period accessories.

20160612-141.jpg

Care with the use of filler.

20160612-139.jpg

Attention...

20160612-138.jpg

... to detail.

20160612-140.jpg

Here's a nice grey Morris Minor instead.

20160612-154.jpg

20160612-156.jpg

I almost dismissed this Mini and then I started noticing things about it.

20160612-157.jpg

Especially at the back.

20160612-160.jpg

Neat little touch with the slots in the corners of the roof gutters.

20160612-161.jpg

To finish this post, here's a shiny red 2CV.

Oo I didn't realise that the increased amount of chod at this years show was down to this forum. Think it's the first time I've ever seen an Applause!

Edit: how much does that Nissan look like a Cadillac STS, i almost dismissed it until i saw the badge.

There was a moment of excitement I forgot to relate!  Chompy happened to look up just as there was a POP and the noise of screeching tyres.  Many people were waiting for the bang, but there wasn't one.  Strangely there also wasn't the noise of racing you might expect before a tyre screech like that.

Turns out, it was some poor folks in a Volvo that had decided one of the front ball joints needed to fall apart.  The ball came out of the socket, letting the strut flop about, yanking the driveshaft out of the gearbox!  Luckily they were doing nearly 0mph on the approach to a roundabout.  Tiny world though because they live and work very close to us and regularly travelled up and down the A19 in the same car.  They got recovered and Chompy left his details just in case they need a witness for the insurance or whatever if they go that route.  The car had apparently not long been through an MoT with no problems mentioned.

The even drew a bit of a crowd, as it might happening right outside a show.  Supersecretzoom lens used to protect the identity of driver and car but illustrate the wonkiness.

It'll be Skoda Rapid under that. Made by Banham(?) who also did those Metro based Audi TT lookalikes.

I spoke to the owner of the Police Minor, he's only had it a couple of weeks, so I guess the previous owner should take the blame, but yeah, see what you mean! Good to see a fleet of Autoshite vehicles there too, nice one.
