What about a business on the high street, old victorian structures. If they have an 'out the back structure' but no stockholding, you might get a dry spot and some leccy??

Just a thought.....

Farmers are prone to accepting bribery with sums of cash !

Farmers.

Never the cheeriest bunch in general but they often have spare sheds and stuff.

Added bonus of them being used to chasing off pikeys so security should be ok.

In the UK:

- Go to an estate agent/property developer who has some substandard shed in the dodgiest part of town on offer

- Prove that you are yourself by showing them your household bills, all IDs you may have, genealogical certificate, Aryan certificate

- Prove that you are affluent enough to be in a position to buy at least three places like the one you want to rent by showing them your bank statements

- Sign over your daughters as collateral, allow landlord first night in writing

- Agree to have all kinds of covert background checks run on you, pay £250.00 for that *privilege (non refundable)

- Wait for at least three months in anticipation whether your application is going to be accepted/declined

- Pay three years rent in advance

- Sign a 200 page oppressive contract with your blood, pay 90 quid

In any other country:

- Respond to a classified ad

- move in

- wreck the place in the shortest possible time

- move on

I rent a double garage with two off road parking spaces at the front for £70/month. I got it through constantly searching right move and other places until something came up. I can pull a car into the garage on an angle and get all round it to work on it.

Persuade your downstairs neighbours that a roller shutter door in their front room is a good idea then buy them a tent for Christmas so they are away every weekend.

I reckon farm is the best bet, especially in Wiltshire 'cos that is teh countryside.

This is a hard one.  There are often hidden away places, for example Chandlers Ford is near us and is ridiculously expensive but even there there is a rough area with lots of old containers which can be rented out for £100 a month, which is ridiculous but presumably they can get away with it!

Another vote for farmers. You need to find out which pub they drink in.

Farmers tend to be utterly miserable bastards, so it's probably going to involve you pouring many pints of cider down their gullets before they'll contemplate doing you a favour. Other than that best places to look are industrial units that are uselessly small to use as a garage outfit but big enough to use as a DIY type garage. Trouble with anything like this is that as you point out they know what rent they can get as well.

I mean what do you call cheap anyway? £200 a month?

It is hard. I've been looking for somewhere decent for years and so far only come close once fairly recently to getting somewhere.

It was a good sized bit of land, local, in a quite place with residential neighbours and had a barn already on the land. Myself and a couple of car obsessed workmates went in together to buy the whole site but got shafted in the end by a developer! It was a shame as it was absolutely perfect.

The joke will be on the developer in the end though! The land has protected established oak trees on it and was only for sale in the first place as the previous developer owner couldn't even get planning permission for 1 small bungalow on the site.

Just have to keep looking.

As I have on-road only, I'm thinking of a flyer around all the houses within a 1/4 mile radius that have a garage or a nice big swing in/swing out driveway with an offer of £x per month (cash waiting m8). Only problem might be the need for at least an informal written agreement to avoid any probs.

Won't be able to do any work (not that I'll be changing a clutch myself anytime soon) - but probably only long term way I can keep 2  (or more;-)) cars.

The original owners of our house were builders, so there is a massive yard next door - unfortunately it isn't ours and it is used for am dram these days!

Get friendly with your local scrap men /  metal recyclers most are hoarders of some sort or another and all will know of places you can store/ work on cars. most will help you out if you are willing to pay them a bit more than they would pay... times are hard in the scrap buisness

I rent a single garage with electric for 55 a month, i found it through justpark.com, other sinilar sites are available.

This is where people with spare drives etc can advertise their space to make a few quid, they're normally priced by the hour but I just messaged the guy and did a deal for a longer term.

Well worth a look and easier than going round with flyers. ;)

very true, just I live in gifferland so internet remains a slight mystery  ;-) . And it is the boomers and the giffers with the space!!

I used to rent my own (former) garage out through parklet.co.uk.
