SPEDDIG TIKKIT update 9/5/16

Yes, at 170mph or thereabouts it didn't flash at all, slower speeds showed the markings were long enough to get two flashes without you being past the end.

Notice the new side-gantry cameras don't have markings, I wonder how they're double-checked? Do they rely on just the technology to never be wrong. I also notice how fierce they are, I've dropped my cruising altitude from 80mph to 74mph (which is probably around actual 70mph) because of the amount they're flashing. Journey down the bit of M1 between the M18 and Tibshelf services had four people caught, it's about 12 miles or something and I'm only noticing the ones that are either facing me as they flash, or where someone goes past me in the zone and it flashes in my mirror.

Weirdly, the ones further south that have been there longer (in Nottinghamshire rather than Derbyshire) I've never seen flash. Dummy cameras, or just greater threshold?

The radar in those "new" motorway systems is incredibly accurate. Also lower RF output with a highly directional antenna - so radar detectors really struggle to pick it up until far too late.

During testing, the theoretical limit on them is 300mph (iirc). Basically far high enough that it's not going to be possible to outrun it in anything like the old tech radars in GATSOs.

When it was tested at bruntingthorpe, it was a surprise how good it was. Even the main engineer who worked on it was surprised - but he always was a stickler for detail and loved engineering the best he could do everytime.

The council have a speed bump fetish round here, all that happens is the vans/taxis/fucked old VAG and Vauxhall owners do 35 still and tailgate anyone who dares to slow down.

A good few years ago I received a letter from the council offering traffic calming along my street, and would I like to vote for which I would like, anonymously OBVS....it was obvious we were going to get SOMETHING so in order of preference I put speed "cushions" at the bottom of my list.

Three guesses what was installed.

Speed bumps are a fucking joke and they just do not work.

If anything, they actually slow you down.

I've got a speed bump on the road next to my house that leads to the local Tesco. I love the way the night time delivery lorries crash over it. Can't beat it when you're trying to sleep.

I hate having to swerve around those kids when I'm trying to write an email. Thank god for autocorrect!

They shake my house to fuck.  But thats alright, 'cos it calms speeding motorists down.  But not buses, trucks or vans.

My local council has a proper traffic nazi in its road planning dept.

Speedbumps on all non major roads, 20 limits almost everywhere in town and 40 limits out of town.

I remember when the speed bumps were being installed outside my house. I rang the local councillor who'd waved then through and spent half an hour going batshit at him on the phone about it.

It was on the news the next day the poor sod had had a heart attack that night and popped his clogs. Felt guilty.

And we still got the bloody bumps anyway.

Felt guilty.

Guilt is a useless emotion my therapist taught me.  And besides, the old twat would have been corrupt anyway.
