Lock up find

It's not a Wizard, it's a Superbeetle, you can tell by the short bonnet.

& by M, it would be a 1303.

So that's McPherson struts & a curved windscreen.

I think it's likely the variety of beetle you sweep into a pan due to massive endemic corrosion. We'll see, waiting on its owner getting back to me.

The garage is a total bargain, and what's left of that Beetle (tyres & a few large lumps of Isopon) will fit nicely into a council wheelie bin. Sorted!

Smash the blimin' padlock off, we wanna see it !!

If its a Karmann , get the v5 and chassis plate  on ebay !

Get it in writing that they don't want the car and are giving it to you.

The suspense is killing me.  So I am going to add to the other pointless messages (no offence) with this one!

Get it in writing that they don't want the car and are giving it to you.

Preferably in the form of a signed V5, and a receipt.

Given the old boy has passed away, there's bound to be someone in the family who knows the car is there and thinks a dusty hack job Beetle cabrio is worth £20k. I'll be very surprised if they just let it go TBH but you can try.

It's a balancing act between them thinking you're not bothered about the car and it just needs to go for scrap, and them thinking you're desperate because it's worth loads. Either one of those will reveal an empty garage and either a scrap man punting it on ebay, or them punting it on ebay.

Even if it's rusted to dust, beetles are worth more money than scrap. There are a lot of restorers & camper converters who are scrabbling for any classic, original VW parts.

Also isn't the rat/rust look the in thing with them at the moment? ;)

This is it, I've made them my offer and left it at that. In an ideal world they'll accept £50-100 and I'll drag it away. More likely as you say they'll come over all Hugh Scully and declare it a piece of German national history and thus put it on eBay for a hilariously high figure, then when they've relisted it 14 times bale it. But then you never know, there's nothing to be lost in making an offer. Key to it is guess as with any negotiation, is to make your offer then keep schtum.

Interior valeting kit at the ready!!!!

If it's sat there since 1997, valeting the interior is akin to garnishing some fortnight old cod with parsley.

£1.27 a wekk for a lockup??? ...that bit has me both gobsmacked .... n a bit green with envy!!

.... sell  the beetle  n offset the cost of the lockup for the few 4 or five years, is my suggestion...

To be honest, a lot of me wanting this Beetle is to NOT be pineapple about it (assuming it's not a hack job). Buy it cheap like it's nothing, make it work, and leave it at that. I don't care how awful it is, it's a shit old Beetle and I'm aware of that, this is AS after all. While it could be sold off for a profit, it just doesn't feel like it's in the spirit of things to me.

Chance of it being roadworthy in my possession would be extremely slim, I just haven't the time for restoring cars. I've put my offer in so I'll wait and see what happens. As Pillock says it all goes well until nephew Arthur Negus goes 'have you any idea what this is worth? I'd insure it today for...' (Insert something equivalent to a New York telephone number)

Bump for a happy ending and interior photies!!!

I'm getting the feeling that the garage is just up the road from the Renault 20 TX in France, which didn't happen due to terrorism and parent rules of being in by 8pm. Or something.

Still waiting on the council to get back to me when they've been in contact with the deceased owners son. He's on holiday apparently. So I'm waiting on Sheffield City Council to get back to me on it, I shall probably be 53 by the time this happens if previous experience set a precedent. Been for another peep today through the garage doors. Still there so watch this space!

Sheffield city council have also kindly provided me with a garage straight opposite my parents and is coincidently the same one that my grandfather had yonks ago. They must be having a purge on their list. Whereabouts in the great steel city is yours?
