Yes I hear you but that's only going to be a minor bump not a killing kittens and nuns type affair that some are inferring.

strangely I was planning a trip around the hills of Derbyshire on my annual nuns and kits day out, might be best to stay at home now.

Maybe it makes me a bad person but the demise of a few nuns wouldn't bother me unduly.

Likewise for cats/kittens :)

You've told your mate they are doing something wrong, it's up to them as an adult to decide whether to act on the advice. Your options from that point on are either to do something about it (eg shop them, keep chipping away at them/friendly banter/encourage mutual friends to back you up to get them to change their ways) or let them deal with the consequences as/when they manifest themselves.

The perceived order of magnitude of the consequences of those actions may also play a part in how you react now - as someone said earlier, it isn't drink driving, but it is technically driving without a licence and the implication would be that the insurance would also be invalidated. If in your opinion they are unlikely to drive stupidly, you might be less inclined to shop them as being a risk to themselves and others (and therefore not risking a friendship) compared to someone who routinely 'drives like a dick'.

What is the likelihood of being sued for medical bills etc if they have  an at fault accident or if someone does a crash-for-cash on them - and they are deemed to have no insurance? Could it get expensive?

Just bubble him to the cops,(preferably Traffic cops)They're not going to tell him it was you.If they pull him,it's just a car check.

Depends on how young and fit the nuns were. Kittens and cats must NEVER be harmed. I don't feel the same about Aardvarks though.

I wonder where he would stand if he took a manual test and failed?would they take away his auto entitlement.

Auto Licences are normally also manual provisional licences  .

They are breaking the law  either do a manual test or drive an auto  .

No. Like if I took a lorry test and failed, I'd still be able to drive a car.

Auto licence + manual car = driving other than in accordance with a licence

Which according to this page earns them 3-6 points and the code LC20 on their licence. That'll look nice.

I reckon they'll still be insured 3rd party.

I wouldn't worry about it. They'll get caught sooner or later.

Someone that's only passed their test in an automatic won't have demonstrated that they have mastered clutch control, e.g. for hill starts.

That's correct but someone that's passed their driving test has not demonstrated that they can actually drive alone on the public highway or on a motorway...?

I say it's only a problem because that how it's viewed due to the "always been/aye been" mentality

I can honestly say I learned far more about driving AFTER I passed my test than I did before I took the test.

It does seem a little odd that you can drive auto on a manual licence but not vice versa. First time I got in an auto I was well confused, nobody had ever explained PNRD to me, or the numbers.

And then I braked with my left foot.

Same here, nearly had a sunroof where there wasn't one before :(

I wouldn't shop him. I'd just mention it basically every time you see him, which is what I did to the Greek chap at work who imported his motorbike and didn't bother to get any proper gear. He was riding to work in jeans and a sweater and an old helmet. Every morning he was greeted with "have you got some bike gear yet? Because you'll regret it when you eventually have an accident". He got some gear.

I felt somewhat responsible for his wellbeing in that he reported to me and was commuting to work.

The insurance will likely pay out to a third party, not for damage to his own car and then they'll come to him to recover the money that they've paid out.   Also bear in mind that if anyone is injured in his car due to an accident, he'll be paying out for that as well.

I can't see that getting a manual licence is going to cost a lot, a few lessons with an instructor and a test, what can it be?  £200?, after all as he's been driving already, he'll be up on the rest of it and should breeze through a manual driving test.

What is actually the point of nuns?

What is actually the point of nuns?

Terrorize small children in catholic schools and thereby engendering a hatred of the church for the rest of their lives (or at least that is the impression I get from everyone I have spoken to who went to a catholic school).

Don't get me wrong, I don't wish them any harm. It's just that I'd be no more or less upset than I would be with the death of anybody else I didn't know.
