Here is today's mystery.  What it the most suitable way to move this piston which is mildly seized solid in the bore, given that it's was baujahr-ed in 195? in Österreich so a new piston is not available from Halfords?

Soak it in derv, clean, heat, bang.

Repeat?

As above... soak in penetrating oil or similar for a good long while then apply percussive maintenance. Possibly with liberal use of the BOC spanner.

You should be able to get a pattern piston if you save enough of the borked one to get dimensions, though.

I agree with the penetrating oil or cola idea, try turning the whole engine over and pouring it up the exhaust port as well.

Has been up the other way with plusgas in the exhaust port for 3 days but some tosser has walked off with the industrial heat gun.

What's cola do to it  technically?

the acid in it should soften the rust and break the seal between the rings and the barrel. Hopefully....

the acid in it should soften the enamel and break the seal between the root and the jaw. Sadly...

Leave it i a bucket of diesel for a few weeks, periodically take it out and try to turn it over. One day, it will and surprise the hell out of you! I had a Chinese Honda 90 engine that was seized solid and the above got it running again - smoked a fair bit (so do I) but ran.

Put the head back on, fill the combustion space with diesel oil.

Fit a grease nipple into the threaded part of a sparkplug and pump oil in with a grease gun. The hydraulic pressure should move it ok.

Coke does scary things to metal, only genuine coke though. It dissolves anything.

i would try the penetrating oil overnight and an hour slowly warming the barrel up all the way round with blowtorch, then rocking the crank back and forth in tiny increments until it gives, theres a place in shrewsbury that might have a piston kit for that(he seems to have everything else)its called thorntons.let us all know what worked for you.ive heard of people using vinegar, but never seen it done myself.

Put the head back on, get some thin oil such as 0w30 and heat it to as hot as you can, pour in cyl head and let to stand for a while. Then the usual 'tap' wi block o wood and hammer

Perfect job to see if Plusgas does actually work any better than WD40, non? That and a bit of tappety tap tap with the old leather-faced mallet.

Alternativly, let all the above shitters have a go of unseizing it. I know I am frothing at the gash wanting to have a pop. Really satisfying when it gets moving
